I think this is the main reason why there is such a lack of fan support and interest these days in Lafayette. During the height of the HUD tenure there was a feeling that UL was positioning themselves to move to a better conference and you felt that energy all over town. Now, you only feel the lethargy of the current administration. They think this new half-built stadium is going to energize this fanbase alone, but it will be the same 10k geriatrics that have been there the last 7-10 years, myself included.
Have any of the FCS move ups, done so with academics and athletics on the same trajectory and pace, or have they put everything behind athletics only.
If the conferences themselves (or ncaa) would monitor that, it would have taken care of itself, but clearly it didnt
Im really surprised the powers that be (that are usually against us) havent been complaining about a hospital paying for the stadium.....one might think, they have all this "extra money" to donate, why didnt they just charge patients less for their hospital stays and/or procedures
I'm sure academics was involved in some sort of way, but as we all know, Athletics is the front porch of the university. But since the SBC started sponsoring Division I-A (FBS) Football, only us, ULM and Arkansas State are still here playing football. South AL is a long time member of the league but didn't start playing SBC football until 2013. New Mexico State and Idaho were also in the first season but left, came back only to be kicked out.
Since the first season of the SBC Football, FIU, MTSU, North Texas, Utah State, FAU, WKU and now Texas State have all come and gone.
