Not as an 8th member as the article indicated, but hopefully as a 9th once Texas State is official?

There is no guarantee we would ever be included in some AAC/SBC mashup.

We have whistled past the graveyard about a million times since realignment started 40 years ago. We have done NOTHING and somehow survived. We have told other conferences don't even ask us. We have convinced other schools to not accept invites because it would make us look bad.

Our luck will end one day, and probably one day soon. Look around. The SBC West ain't going anywhere and neither are we.
    THANK YOU!

I don’t understand why people think we would be attractive to a conference that clearly only cares about adding the biggest media markets.

Y’all, this isn’t about merit. This isn’t about who makes the most phone calls. This is about Texas State being in the middle of two large media markets in the fastest growing region in the country.

According to the Chronical the current SBC buyout is $5M, if Texas State does not notify the SBC by July 1st, it doubles to $10M.

The length of the PAC 8 deal has now been revealed but not the valuation. Should the radio silence on the dollar amount raise concerns? Hmmm....

Nothing in my opinion is certain except UL is a football program with average attendance of slightly over 17,000. The program has a budget of slightly over $42M that will surely be reduced because of the state's current financial status.

Yeah, lot of unknowns still. Texas State could very well decline.

I'm just starting to get depressed. I don't see any way out of our current Southland level conference division. We should be in the AAC right now. We definitely didn't play our cards right before.

Listen, I'm frustrated as well with the current NIL climate. With the way college sports has become minor league affiliates for the power conferences, I may be done with it in the next year or two.

When we got gutted after Napier left, it really was a gut punch for me. Now, it gets harder and harder to get excited for anything. I pay way more money than I should to continue supporting the program. Just praying for a light at the end of this tunnel and that its not a train.

Not a State budget expert, total outsider, but the State just pulled $1.1 Billion out of reserve 'rainy day' fund spreading it around every district. There's another $2 Billion in reserve. The State has plenty of money, just intent on overspending most years. Will say the State is expecting Medicaid eligibility reductions and work requirements which reduces millions in Obamacare funding. A big risk to our public universities is they are facing immense falling enrollment pressures. UL is better positioned than most to prosper through these matters. Am proud UL is about to open new OLOL/Cajun Field, grand achievement! The only thing holding back UL besides more cash is continued articulating vague vision of "we will compete for championships". Of course we are, everyone else is, too. More clarity on goals and upside will get the fanbase on board.

I'm fairly certain most on this board are not in touch with the reality of our budget situation (and that of of other Louisiana Higher Ed institutions). Covid funding carried things for a number of years but that is drying up. The primary concerns right now are covering payroll and not running out of paper....no joking here. These are facts.

A new conference affiliation that might cost you an extra dollar isn't even worth talking about given the circumstances being faced.

    Slight of hand statement.

Every possible move would cost more, but at the same time, there isn't a conference move (being discussed) that would result in less operations money after expenses.

Fan excitement and involvement would balloon the coffers even further.

What a conference change would require, is more work and planning.
