Both were mid-major QBs out of high school, at best.
Vizza was set to go to Nevada out of Alamo Heights in San Antonio and also had offers from Air Force and Army before switching late to North Texas. He has a good arm but is a pro-style QB playing in a Mean Green system that is better with a dual threat guy, like Chase Daniel.
Dodge was productive at Southlake Carroll but always had great talent around him and never had to carry the load. His RB at SLC was Texas freshman Tre' Newton, the son of former Dallas Cowboy OL Nate Newton. He played with at least three DI WRs.
Dodge was 5-10, 165 coming out of high school and has never really bulked up since going to UNT. He broke his collarbone in his final high school game and got a few concussions in his first year at UNT. His dad played him at WR because he didn't want him to get banged around like Vizza.
Daniel was short at SLC and Missouri, but he bulked up to about 220 pounds so he could take the beating that comes in that offensive system. Dodge is too frail to take that punishment.
Things will not go well if the Dodges cannot turn UNT around in '09.
Besides the transcript problem---Why in the hell would anbody tell a kid that they want--- where he HAS to play ---this is nuts---this kid was a great def player---let him try the position and if he can't make it HE WILL KNOW and change positions----remember Farve the TE recruit at USM who wanted to play QB??????
We didn't loose him because he wanted to play DT. He was offered during the football season, but the coaches did not have his transcript. I spoke to him at the New Orleans All-Star game, he had just sent his transcripts to admissions. Admissions questioned several of his grades and told the staff he would not be admitted into UL until those questions were cleared. The staff moved on and he visited North Texas. I don't know if he would have come if his grades were acceptable, but he did tell me he was committed when they first offered him at OL.
Has anyone heard about the Belle Chasse quarterback, Matherne? In Class 4A, the kid accounted for 50 touchdowns, 2700+ yards passing and 1000+ yards rushing. I know he's listed at 5'10 and 180, but those are huge numbers that should not be ignored.
Why is no one on this kid?
