IMO we are really bad when it really matters.

Our offense runs along these lines too. I won't say really bad, but we beat up on bad pitching and often get handled by above average to elite pitching.

Warren Nolan predicts us to finish 36-20, going 4-2 the rest of regular season, with a 49 RPI, non-conference RPI of 37. I don't know if a 49 RPI has any chance for at large with 5-12 record against Quad 1 and 2 teams.
A 49 RPI has zero shot for an at large and may not even get you in. Our SOS is horrific.

That is the issue. I don’t think team era means a lick when it’s getting thrown in our faces every time we complain about hit batters and walks. I can handle getting the ball smacked around but I cannot stand to see all the free bases. Playing state Marshall and Monroe prop up those era numbers. Just tired of hearing about it. Can someone who had looked at the stats tell me where we sit in the league standings as far as giving up free bases?

    6th on walks
    9th on HBP

We still have not won a weekend series against a team with a winning record, with just six games left. Our record is a little deceiving. We have won a lot of games against bad teams. Our strength of schedule is 84, per Warren Nolan

We are 5th highest in hit batters. We are tied with old Dominion for 1st in least walks allowed.

We have actually given up the lowest number of runs overall in the league, 244, 13 less than USM. We are tied with USM for 1st in fewest earned runs given up at 228.

The issue isn't the ERA as much as timing of the unfortunate events.

Against App State, we give up 3 runs but walk 2 batters home to lose 3-2. Against JMU, we give up a walk off HR with the lead in the 9th. Against Coastal, we give up 3 runs but give up a game tying home run with 2 outs in the 9th. Against Southeastern, we only give up 5 runs but hit 6 batters and give away 3 unearned runs. We lose by 1 run.

Like a timely hit, we seem to give up a timely pitch or a gift.

At times, our pitching is very bad, almost unwatchable, but it is relatively good compared to peers.

We also lead the Sun Belt in fielding % and are in the top half of most offensive catagories.

Fun exercise...our team ERA in Quad 1 and 2 games goes up to 6.42. Basically, play teams with a pulse, pitching can't stop them from scoring. Play 22 games against bad teams (quad 4), pitching is good enough to keep the runs down enough.
