Most good teams beat up on bad pitching and find ways to manufacture runs against above average to elite pitching.
If I’m reading this right, you’re saying the Cajuns have scored 10+ runs in 24 different games this year? That’s not correct. They’ve scored 10+ in 16 games, including games against Campbell and Coastal. They also scored 6 in another game against Campbell, 6 in a game against Troy, and 8 against LSU.

On the flip side, they scored 2 or fewer 10 times including games against BYU, High Point, SLU, and James Madison.

You are right. I was looking at the RPI sheet and somehow didn't get the correct numbers. Multitasking at work....

Point is, we've played an extremely weak schedule. We beat up on bad teams and when we face good pitching, we aren't finding ways to win with either manufacturing runs or getting the clutch hit. This is not absolving the pitching issue which also has padded stats due to a weak schedule. New Mexico has an RPI of 215 and a losing conference record. A lot of good it's nation leading batting average is doing. It's just a matter of looking at reality and not bending stats to look good. I don't care if we lead the nation in a dozen statistical categories. We haven't won a series against a team with a winning record.

We also went 1 and 4 in mid week road games. Only one we won was against LSU. I think we played too many home mid week games against average teams to help the RPI. Granted, the revenue helps and kids spend less time out of the classroom. Those are tradeoffs to the RPI impact.

We have to play somebody. Playing crummy teams within 4 hours drive is what you get sometimes. We underperformed in midweek games and that has been a pattern for a long time.

Many believe 40 is the magic number. Get there and you are in. This schedule was set up for that to be largely achievable. Some major slip ups caused us to miss it. Win series against JMU and App St. Win a couple of those midweek games and don't give away a couple leads late and no one is talking about how we scheduled.

Edit: I also think this conference is transitioning to a level that doesn't require 40 for an at large. Just not there yet.

This thread shows that one can tell whatever story he wants with statistics and that another can almost tell an equally convincing but opposite story with the same statistics and a few other facts.

Let’s be completely honest. Look at this schedule objectively 2 years ago and tell us who you would have excluded from the schedule. In fairness because we do not know what may have been available then, one series in that group must be excluded and 2 midweek games excluded because those probably had an in state travel limitation.

The push for the Big 10 to get more bids will come from our conferences, they wont take any away from Sec, Acc or big 12
