Not as excited on this hire but I will definitely trust Coach Napier
The only time he was a DC he did well. Hard to blame a position coach for decades of ineffective defensive prowess. Again his unit improved over the worse days.
Napier will live and die on his choices.
If he is a good recruiter, that is certainly a plus. We need it. Can't say I'm too excited initially, but willing to see what happens on the field, he might be an excellent coach.
Napier learned from the best, Dabo and Nick. He knows what he needs and i'm sure Dez has spilled the beans on our current talent. This screams a man who knows Hud's talent isn't up to snuff.
The better question is, what is Coach Napier thinking?
Now, I don't know the man personally, but from everything I've read, he seems like a motivated individual who has constantly tried to elevate his position in life with each coaching change. I think we can probably assume that that's what he's thinking with this job as well, his FIRST shot at head coaching.
Unless the man is thinking he'll just get comfy for a few years and then go back to being a position coach somewhere, I suspect he's interested in putting together a staff that will get him where he wants to go........which we can assume is a P5 coaching position.
With all that in mind, until he proves otherwise, I'm going to trust his judgment on this one.
