TT hasn’t been known for defense in years; maybe DECADES!! But solid improvement this season. Not sure how much of that Scott is responsible for. But if he can help bring in talent, that will go a long way towards improvement. Spent 3 of my early AF years in Lubbock. Enjoyed my time there; but not sad when restationed!!
I think a lot of people expected us to pour a lot of money into coordinators and position coaches so the hires seem low key. They aren't looking at how many more guys we will have behind the scenes in off field roles. Those are the positions that can really put us over the top in scheming and recruiting.
Wonder what connection Napier has with Karl Scott?
His secondary unit last year at Texas Tech was not very good. The Texas Tech passing defense was 124th in the nation, 76th in Passing S&P+ and 110th in Passing Success Rate. Doesn't mean he is not a good coach or won't be a good DC here. Just that last year was a tough year for his unit.
Not as excited on this hire but I will definitely trust Coach Napier
The only time he was a DC he did well. Hard to blame a position coach for decades of ineffective defensive prowess. Again his unit improved over the worse days.
Napier will live and die on his choices.
If he is a good recruiter, that is certainly a plus. We need it. Can't say I'm too excited initially, but willing to see what happens on the field, he might be an excellent coach.
Napier learned from the best, Dabo and Nick. He knows what he needs and i'm sure Dez has spilled the beans on our current talent. This screams a man who knows Hud's talent isn't up to snuff.
