we should go 2-2 in OC with a small chance to go 3-1 If Nick Fitzgerald does not return to Miss state

I bet the Big 12 very heavily and watch TTU play over the last 4-5 years often. TTU DBs are constantly torched and way too many times out of position. I understand that not having a pass rush hurts the secondary, but for my eyes, their kids just looked lost a large majority of the time. Now, I admit that they did seem to improve this year, but that was more in the front 7 than anything. Go watch the bowl game against USF, and tell me what you see...

I hope I'm completely off base. Doesn't change my opinion of Nape or temper my excitement in any way. I'm just extremely skeptical.
MAT when Gibbs took over the Tech defense 3 years ago he told a friend of mine he didn't have a player that could start for UH at the time. I was skeptical about this statement but we ended up winning the Peach Bowl because of that defense. In todays college football people would say Todd Orlando gives up too many passing yards but I don't care his defenses playing winning defense by shutting down opponents running and generally opponents have to pass and play catch up. Tech got out to a 21 to 3 lead this year against Arizona State and held on for the win. Tech lacks talent but generally does a good job of generating turnovers.

It's no secret why former FCS teams are so good in year 4 of being FBS members.

They are often extremely top heavy after adding so many scholarships when making the jump.

    From 63 to 85.

Today we added Patrick Toney to the coaching ranks!

Not saying you are wrong...but how does that give them an advantage over teams that have been at 85? Can they exceed the 25 per year deal?

So we hired the UTSA safeties coach to be our safeties coach. That is a strong move.

He was also Special Teams Coordinator at SLU and DB coach at Sam Houston. He graduated from SLU in 2013. Good experience in my opinion.

Very young coach if he graduated in 2013. Wonder what position Smith will coach. Anyone have a clue?

I'm thinking you mean Scott. I think he will coach inside or outside LB. that's what he coached with SLU.

Toney is a good hire. More young energy on the staff.

If he graduated in 2013, he should still be in his 20s, unless he was a late bloomer. Wow.

The landscape of football has been evolving a lot lately. You are seeing younger and younger coaches rising up the ranks. Just look at the Rams and Sean McVay. He is only 30 years old.

This is another reason I don’t like the hire. Its time we have a defense that schemes to stop ppl, not “create turnovers”. We’ve seen how successful that gameplan has been under Hudspeth and most of his DCs.
