defense has improved at every stop he has been at that is encourging plus we wont see a QB or WR in the belt on par with anyone from the big 12

Actually...the last time UL brought in a defensive mind from Texas Tech to assist (Hudspeth)...our defense improved...

I’ll be flat out honest, I do not like this hire. Being a great recruiter is fantastic, but being a coordinator is a bigger responsibility than bringing in players IMO.

I bet the Big 12 very heavily and watch TTU play over the last 4-5 years often. TTU DBs are constantly torched and way too many times out of position. I understand that not having a pass rush hurts the secondary, but for my eyes, their kids just looked lost a large majority of the time. Now, I admit that they did seem to improve this year, but that was more in the front 7 than anything. Go watch the bowl game against USF, and tell me what you see...

I hope I’m completely off base. Doesn’t change my opinion of Nape or temper my excitement in any way. I’m just extremely skeptical.

He had a lot of success as a linebackers' coach. Maybe he was out of his element.

We don't know what position he'll coach here.

If his last job had been at SLU and they were seventh in the country in total defense, you might feel a bit better.

Well me too. That would put us in the top half of college football on PPG allowed.

Yes, I'm not sure how many defensive secondaries would look good against Mayfield, Rudolph and Grier. When Scott was the DC at SE Louisiana, his defense was solid. I don't have a problem with someone that can recruit athletes to the scheme he wants to teach. Would it be considered a big hire coming from an FCS program?

I like the resume as far as the stops he’s made, but I’m not thrilled about his DC experience and again, TTU has been atrocious in the secondary.

I wouldn’t go to Enron for financial advice...
