Track & Field Re: Ragin' Cajuns have the making of a strong recruiting class

I want to illustrate early offer problems and the effect on rankings for you, and I do not want to pick on this kid, because he is a good player, but here are the facts...

Bradly Roussel is an Inside linebacker at Redemptorist HS. He is 5'11", 215 lbs, and runs a 4.76 40. He is a 3 star athlete on Scout and Rivals. He is ranked #27 in the country at his position by Scout. He had a reported early offer from Tennessee, then Washington, and neither panned out, and he is now committed to Tulane as of today, not because it was his first choice, but because it was all he had left.

Zach Kane on the other hand, is ranked roughly 30 places below Roussel by Scout. He is a 2 star, and is 6'2" 215 lbs, runs a 4.7, and is committed to Miami.

Zach Kane was pretty much a complete unknown to Scout until December, in fact, December 5th, 2007, was the first mention he had on Scout.com. Bradley Roussel has 10 articles/features, dating back to June of last year. Which player will be the better player in college, who knows? Two things are certain, Bradley Roussel had the best hype, and Zach Kane was a real sleeper.

UL needs to continue to find the Zach Kanes, they are out there.

You mention Willie Bohannon but he is already committed to Kentucky. You mention Ruiz, he's already committed here. I usually go by ESPN's recruiting board because they do a great job of evaluating talent and are quick to update their boards. We have only 3 kids committed that are above the minimum evaluation standard of 40. Again, I'm going strictly by these services. If you look at LA Tech, take a look at their committments. They have a very solid class coming in plus more. I believe that D. Johnson is possibly waiting to see what happens there also. Many of the names you mention aren't on some of the boards that we look at as fans. How about James Narcisse? We lost him to McNeese. We lost Casey Narcisse to Monroe. He would have been (on many boards) our highest ranked recruit. I may not be in the know like you Cajun T but I DO my homework as well as I can. _

First, let me correct you. All of ESPNs ratings come from Rivals. Second, we didn't offer either Narcisse. James Narcisse did not get an offer or an official visit. Casey Narcisse, didn't get an offer from the Cajuns because he had already committed and we rated Derreck Dean higher. Both are the same player, but Dean had 18 sacks this past season in 4A football. I watched St. James play Teurlings at Clark Field this year. I liked both Narcisse kids and Ambrose, I believe we got the better NG in Derreck Dean. BTW, Louisiana Football Magazine has him on the preseason all defensive team ahead of Narcisse as well. As for LATech's class, six commitments as of today are not qualified and they lost another top one to Texas A&M this week. So let's see what happens at the end of the day. Rivals and Scout both have rating systems, and opinions vary on athletes. Bottom line if a an athlete is good enough to garner offers from any BCS program or solid mid-major, he is a solid get for the Cajun program.

T, first off I would like to thank you for the work you do, and insight you give. However, I don't know how you watched St. James play Teurlings at Clark field this year. I don't believe they played this year...

I don't know any names, but with all the talk about St. James what were these players numbers? I was on the sideline at the dome for their game and the numbers are how I know them.
