Lee Brecheen(spelling?) of Louisiana Football Magazine, on his show this past week, featured only 2 school's recruiting classes as having stellar results, LSU and UL. He said that this class was the best UL had put together in years, specifically mentioning Evan Ruiz, Blaine Gauthier, Brendan Wilson, and Sean Osborne(who he made it sound like was probably going to commit). I am not an expert on such things, but I think that he is as good as it gets in Louisiana, as far as an opinion on HS recruiting goes.

I think we have a shot at one of 3 running backs that I have seen play
    Luther Ambrose
    Stanley Binion
    & Zeke Jones

One of those plus quarterback Tim Curry could make this a best ever crop
Tack on the s/lb from Detroit Beal

This is a very good year for recruiting

Lee Breechen is good friends with Ruiz'z father,(camera man on his show as well) and Osborne's father. Sean is leaning to the Cajuns, but doesn't want other schools to know his decision yet. Air Force has contacted him about scheduling a visit in January.

    Another QB?

I mentioned yesterday that we might have three QBs all within a year of each other. Express said that the competition would be that much better. I agree, but to sign 2 QBs 2 years in a row would be a little overboard. Plus, if we are in fact looking at this Curry kid, I'm not sure if hed sign anyway because of the lack of potential playing time.

We desparately need defensive help this year. Almost all of the committments are offensive players. If we don't get some defensive help, and I mean good JC players, it will be another long, long year. And, not something most of us are willing to put up with again.

You are right about needing more defesive players, but just remember we are about 6 weeks away from signing day, and a lot can happen between now and then. One would expect more offensive commitments early because of the success and dynamics of our offense over recent years. These players know that they'll rack up yards and score points and be successful in our scheme. I think that's mainly why we're getting nice OL, QB, and RB commits, but it also may be the reason we haven't seen any WR commits yet. The WRs know they won't get as many touches in our scheme, other than on short routes, occasional reverses, and occasional deep balls, than they may get in more pass-happy schemes.

It probably has just as much to do with the fact that the D coaches having to work a little harder to get recruits to buy in.

The Cajuns are in good standing with Curry, but there is nothing to stop a BCS program from coming back and offering him because they lost another prospect. Curry has been turned off by the pressuring of several coaches recruiting him right now. We will sign two, Hundley is gone as well as Morel. Anytime you have a chance to sign an athlete like Curry, you take him. The competition at the QB position will only make this program better in the long run. Curry has a great arm, but he still can run as well as Babb. Unless a BCS program comes back on him, we have a shot.

BTW, for those that thought we are not recruiting some good prospects, Demarius Johnson has been told LSU and Miami are going to offer him soon.

The staff is looking real hard at defensive JC help. In fact one commitment is from a JC LB and visits from a few others on that side of the ball are planned.

Curry is listed as a commit to UTEP on the Rivals site. It does say "soft commit", whatever that means. I still hope we can sign him though.
