It appears that they are starting on the reconstruction of the overlook/stage area. Sidewalks are poured: leading from/to Hebrard, and a ramp leading up from the union....both look good.
What I can't figure out is what they are framing up along the lines where the building once stood. I thought they would just pour a new surface over the whole thing to tie it all together...but I don't think they need such high form work just to do that. Helmut: do you have an expert opinion of what they are doing? Maybe you can reach out to Steve O. get a get a rendering of the project????
I'm not Helmut, but that appears to be a temporary fence or barrier to me.
It's a temporary barrier. Looks like they want to provide access to the student union from the boulevard ASAP. It will take some time for them to finish the final plans. They might have the over look opened by next week.
There were plenty of trip hazards and code violations in the area they barricaded off. They need to make sure that there are no ADA violations either. (ramps slopes, feeler curbs at hand rails etc). They need to make sure that there are hand rails at every place there is more than 30" of drop off between the balcony and the ground. Lots of "stuff" to do that ordinary people wouldn't think of but we see every day.
The walk way and balcony are open. People have taken advantage of the nice weather this weekend to enjoy the balcony. While they are not finished it it open up a pedestrian path from the union to the boulevard.
A really nice afternoon at Cypress lake. Many people enjoying the balcony of Guillory Hall
These are just a few of the people I saw during a span of about 1/2 hour. A very good decision to keep the balcony. Students, families with kids and older people that looked like they were here for the festival
A Great Egret looking for some small fish to eat.
A well fed alligator also looking for something to eat.
Cypress Lake looking good.

Great pics. I wonder how far along the plans for the new green space, stage, etc. are? Very anxious to see those...
