Lots of great info in this thread. So far I'm definitely going to check out Olde Tyme and Fat Pat's.

Shrimp Po Boy and the best cheeseburger in town. That's definitely a start.

I'm interested in more discussion about Prejean's. Some have called it a tourist trap (but hey, I'm a tourist) and overrated but others seem to swear by it. Good food and live music sounds awesome. Food seems a little pricy, but a great atmosphere is worth something too.
Is it a decent place for kids? I may be entertaining a couple of 12-year-olds Friday night while my brother and his wife have a date night.
Also, is it likely to be very crowded Friday night? I don't know how much waiting an hour on a table appeals to me.

Of Everything that has been mentioned in these 13 pages, I would have to echo the Café des Amis Zydeco Brunch on Saturday Morning. That is probably the best place where you can get a quick micro-glimpse into the local culture on a quick trip where baseball is the focus.

Also, I would echo the "Stuff Turkey wang" at Laura's Café. It is seasoned pretty well, but it burns more the next day.

I haven't been out to Prejean's in a couple of years because I live on the other side of Lafayette but enjoyed it every time I went. It certainly is designed for tourist but the food was always pretty authentic. Link below including the menu for you to judge selection and price.

As for the locals.....no doubt if you are looking for Cajun go to Poorboy's Riverside Inn....when you think you are lost you are getting close. As others have suggested give the "house salad" a try. It isn't what you think.

Old Tyme grocery is the definitive when it comes to Poboy's and was/is a regular stop for all students and alumni.

I would recommend Deano's very highly but if you do go be prepared to never enjoy another pizza ever again. My wife used to work a cardiac floor at one of the hospitals and a common question/statement was you mean I can't eat at Deano's anymore??

Hey guys,
Looking forward to visiting your fair city this weekend. Hoping I can find some tickets but looking to have a good time regardless.
First off, I want to apologize for some of my Bulldog peers on the whole ticket thing, some of them have really been ____s about it. I think it just took us aback as the places we've traveled in the past have generally had plenty of bleacher or standing room tickets.

Looking for some advice. What are the "can't miss" restaurants, bars, etc? We'll probably look for some place to hang out and watch the ULL-JSU game after our game Friday. Maybe have a couple of drinks. Other than that, just looking for the best food and to experience Lafayette.

Is there a particular neighborhood with decent hotels and things in walking distance? Or am I better off just planning to drive everywhere?

Speaking of driving, how is the parking situation on campus. Is it mostly free, pass-only, or pay-when-you-park? I've seen a lot of people mention tailgating, can you give me the scoop on that? Is there one common tailgating area or is it mostly spread out?

You guys seem like a hospitable bunch and I know your town has a lot to offer. Looking forward to coming down and watching some good baseball.

Be sure and visit the River Ranch area. It is the newest and nicest area of Lafayette. Great restaurants, bars and shopping. Along the way, Judice Inn has the best hamburgers. LaFonda's has the best Mexican food, margueritas, and a great bar. Downtown Lafayette has the college scene for bars. Enjoy Lafayette!

don't forget Poche's in Breaux Bridge great food, some of the best boudin in the area and bring a cooler to stock up on Cajun meats and sausage from the butcher shop. While in Breax Bridge I also highly recommend a stop at The Fruit Stand for some Foti pecan products and Fruit Stand pickled products.
