Yeah. His daughter owns it I think. Leave it up to Red to be genius. Keep the biggest fat shop in town going that serves the best ice cream & malts in the world & at the same time have the best gym in the country to work it off. Kind of like the Rothchilds. They've been accused of financing both sides of every war since Cane Slew Abel.
Lots of great info in this thread. So far I'm definitely going to check out Olde Tyme and Fat Pat's.
Shrimp Po Boy and the best cheeseburger in town. That's definitely a start.
I'm interested in more discussion about Prejean's. Some have called it a tourist trap (but hey, I'm a tourist) and overrated but others seem to swear by it. Good food and live music sounds awesome. Food seems a little pricy, but a great atmosphere is worth something too.
Is it a decent place for kids? I may be entertaining a couple of 12-year-olds Friday night while my brother and his wife have a date night.
Also, is it likely to be very crowded Friday night? I don't know how much waiting an hour on a table appeals to me.
It's high as a giraffe's behind for supper. You can get the same exact entree for lunch for about 1/3 to 1/2 the price last time I was there. Used to be the absolute best in town. But have cut back on the menu, portions, & quality. For those who remember they had the best french bread on earth when they used Pouppart's french bread & bread crumbs. It's okay, but nothing special now. The protions used to as large as the price so it was a good deal. Now, for dinner expect to pay at least $30-60 for an entree alone and either order appetizer & desert, or expect to leave still hungry. Just not worth the money when comapare to many other local places who serve great specialties at a fraction of the price. Just my opinion. Now, if money is no object & you want to be somebody. Then it's the place to go.
Key to the Filling Station is their "Etcetera" and "Specialty" menu. Filet, Mahi Mahi, Lobster sandwich, Burgers, and stuff like that. I'm not big on their Mexican stuff and I don't know many who are. Best Mexican stuff they offer is the pork enchilada, everything else is pretty average. Margarita's are really good though. Probably my favorite margarita in town, but Bentley is proud of them and he prices them pretty high.
