As a fan of a rival NFC power, it's Hawk's job to downplay the guy we got.

Besides, he's got - at worst - the speed and hands of the guy Seattle traded first and third round draft picks for. Harvin may be TWO WHOLE INCHES taller than Cooks, but Cooks comes cheaper and without pre-existing injury concerns. On a roster that doesn't have a lot of spots available, I like our move and I'm excited to see how it turns out.

Seattle is also a pretty stacked roster, and there weren't many players there at 32 that were worth that pick with the top corners, linebackers, and offensive linemen gone. Could have seen them going Marqise Lee to replace Golden Tate, but I guess they thought the value was better in dropping to Minnesota's spot in the 2nd. There will be a few good corners and receivers available at that spot.

Right, the phrase combine warrior generally means a guy who has measurables who did not produce up to his measurements at the college level.

This guy is just undersized and quick. There are a ton of undersized speed guys who produce in the NFL. One of them happens to be on the Seahawks.

Then why wasn't he a first round guy without the combine?

I just don't like the pick...the Saints needed a top line corner...they traded up for a slot receiver. At least when Seattle traded for Harvin they knew what they were getting. This kid hasn't played against an NFL defense...

Harvin actually had a so-so combine...and he was still picked in the first round. He was also rookie of the year. If Cooks were to be a second coming of Harvin...I expect the same. Think he can do it?

Edit: And Harvin was popped for Marijuana at the combine...and he still went 22nd overall.

Combine Warriors are the guys who do exceptional things at the combine...and get bumped into the first round because of it. Brandin Cooks was not always a first round guy. Let me throw some names at you...

Jonathan Sullivan (wonder who took him?)
Matt Jones
Vernon Gholston
Darrius Heyward-Bey

More often than not if these guys weren't first rounders before the combine...they shouldn't have been first rounders...PERIOD.

And if we're being technical here, Sullivan's problem was that he was the opposite of a workout warrior. He was always a consensus first round pick coming out of Georgia, we were just the poor saps unlucky enough to draft him. Once he got paid, he hung it up. Now THAT was a trade up I hated. Two first rounders for that guy.

And if we're being technical here, Sullivan's problem was that he was the opposite of a workout warrior. He was always a consensus first round pick coming out of Georgia, we were just the poor saps unlucky enough to draft him. Once he got paid, he hung it up. Now THAT was a trade up I hated. Two first rounders for that guy.

He still had a damn good combine. I remember that year...they traded the 19 & 20th picks? Both to Arizona. Anquan Boldin was one of those picks I think. Their history of trading up in the first round is not good...see also Ricky Williams and Mark Ingram. Trading up is bad...ummmkay.
