I used a Watergate reference earlier. Here's another.
Senator Howard Baker cut through a lot of the complications with the profoundly simple question: "What did the President know and when did he know it?"
I think we have a right to know the same thing.
Was the "muzzling" decision decreed by the AD with the blessing of the President? Or did the President not know a thing about this? I suppose there is plausible deniability. If the heat gets too intense, Martin Hall could pass the buck to the AD's office.
I don't think I'm being unreasonable to think we have a right to know what prompted this decision. If there was pressure from Baton Rouge or the SBC, exactly who was it from? Was Benson directly involved? Who said what? What was the ultimatum or the threat?
I'm not interested in a witch hunt. Color me probably too idealistic, but I think we are owed a full explanation from Martin Hall. And expressing such a wish and expecting answers is not being unreasonable.
I did not realize the "____" word was not allowed on this board. I guess I could have used "greatly annoyed the fans".
Is anyone curious as to what the "official" line will be on KPEL tomorrow?? I'm wondering if Jay and Steve have been talking to make sure they're on the same page. While I don't think Steve posts here, I've been waiting for Jay to give us his "my God, you've all gone off the deep end" speech. Maybe the water is still too hot for him to wade in. I'm looking forward to hear what Foote says if he's asked about this. He seems to be the one least worried about upsetting the "powers."
I feel betrayed by the administration.
Over the past 12 months we have been encouraged to speak up and take a stand against anyone who did not call us Louisiana.
Many die hard fans did just that and argued until we were blue in the face both in private conversations as well as public outlets.
Last night the first time the PA announcer said first down, and killed one of the few Cajun Field traditions we have, I felt like we were hung out to dry.
Any opponents to the Louisiana athletic name now has a very valid argument.
The adminstration made all die hard UL fans look completely stupid last night and I am ____ed.
What's sad is I really like the new version with the crowd saying Louisiana first down, I'm just highly PO'd at the reason why we had to do it that way. I feel as let down as everyone else. Using the "fighting the war" analogy, I guess this is what the Marine feels like when he's on the front line and has no air support, all alone! I feel like we lost 2 games yesterday!!
Geaux Cajuns!!!
