While that is certainly true, Viator is not even on the radar. This opening will pay around $400-450K and will attract some very good coaches.
You are foolish if you think that the UL program is not seen as a decent job at the FBS level.
Just look what the athletic department has to sell to a prospective coach in order to get him to want to coach here:
A complete campus renovation, new Union and Dorms.
An outside fund raising arm for athletics that is still in its infancy.
Cajun Field expansion/renovation.
A manageable schedule for next season.
Scheduling input.
Cajun football is growing and we need a coach who can capitalize on that growth.
MY top 3 candidates are Oregeron who out priced himself, Hoglorson who has not expressed interest but 2 other Okla St. assistants have, and Leveitt we have not heard any interest from him also. I sure Leach is holding out for a BCS job. Bower turned down UNT who just offered $585,000 to another coach so he must not want to coach again.
The big names are not beating down our door that I am aware of.
The OC at SFA is who is making that team go. I hope we don't hire Harper. This would not be a good move from what I been told by people who have worked with him at McNeese and Northwestern St.
McNeese did not qualify because they scheduled very poorly. They played 2 FBS schools in LSU and Missouri and the game against Lamar did not count as a D1 win because they are in a transition year. That left them with only 6 D1 wins which was not strong enough to get an at-large bid. They finished 7-4 and their 2 SLC losses were close losses at the end of the game. This was supposed to be a rebuilding year and they were hit with injuries. They lost their top 3 RB's for most of the year.
It was reported on KPLC TV in Lake Charles that Matt Viator had interviewed for the UL job. They could not contact the AD or Coach Viator for confirmation but they said that this information came from sources inside the McNeese Athletic Department. Turbine do you know anything about him being interviewed???
