_ Do we know for sure there are better candidates that WANT the job? Sometimes people apply for jobs because its available and they are interested not necessarily that they want the job. If during the interview process it sounds like a good job then they may want it. Sometimes they apply just to hone their interview skills for something down the road. I interviewed a lot of people in 40 years in running a business and not all of them wanted the job they interviewed for. Most do but sometimes its just testing the waters. Some of the coaches maybe using the job at UL as a bargaining chip to get a raise where they are. If they are interviewing for another HC job they may use the UL job again as a bargaining chip and vice versa. I am not advocating Viator for the UL job just pointing out there are lots of reasons people interview for a certain job. _

Alright, maybe you have a point. In either case, there are better candidates that want the HC job at UL. I'd say Joe Deforest is a better candidate (not that he's the best candidate or that he's my favorite) and it's been clearly indicated that he wants the job.

Seems like a win win win win situation... _

We all know the success that McNeese State has had in the past at the 1-AA level.

It should be noted that Matt Viator, has head coach, has never won a playoff game at the 1-AA level. This includes the year that they went 11-0 in the regular season.

This year McNeese was 6-5 and for the second time under Viator, failed to qualify for the playoffs.

Rickey Bustle was the OC at Va Tech when we hired him. btw, he was there when Mike Vick was there. And, Mark Hudspeth is the passing game coordinator at Miss State (and also WR coach i think). DeForest is considered one of the best ST coordinators in the country and a very strong recruiter at OSU. I'd say that's 2 top (or close to top) assistants from big time programs. And we're willing to pay them more than what they're making now. I don't see your point...
Also, the folks in LC aren't even worth my time. I don't want us to hire a coach just to ____ McNeese off and viator has never had to recruit at 1-A level which in some ways, is harder.

In Viator's case it would be "school" singular since he has not coached at any other university. that is one aspect that troubles me. And the same can be said for most of his staff. So if you hire Viator you ar eprobably getting his entire staff since he won't have a lot of contacts from prior stops at other programs.

OK. I do not see your point. The man has still proved that he can recruit and biuld a better program in the same area as we are located with less resources and scholies.

I am not sure if he is the answer but to laugh off the suggestion as some have done here is stupid. IMHO

Many of his stud athletes were guys who could not qualify to get in to the D1A programs so they wound up at MSU instead. He won't be able to bring in those marginal students here. And to claim he has built a better program is dubious. To pull an upset agains t a D1A program one week and then play an SLC schedule the remainder of the way is one thing but to play a full D1A schedule week in and week out is another thing entirely.
