True enough, he has no college coaching experience...and to be honest, I seriously doubt he would even consider the job.
If we need to be certain that a guy has failed at the DI level elsewhere before hiring him, then he is not qualified.
If you want a "Cinderella Story", you better find someone that can work with mice and pumpkins and turn them into champions.
I would venture to say that Jonathan Pixley has coached up more players from Louisiana that played in HS and/or made it to the college ranks as a result of his efforts and inspiration, male and female alike; than any other coach in Louisiana. Most of these players never even played for him on a team, many of them would never have even made the cut on their HS team without his influence. Some drive 2-3 hours just to work with him. He has an open gym on Saturdays where players from anywhere and everywhere come to learn from him, and they do. Its no free ride or group clinic, he actually plays against them, challenges them, works the Hell out of them, and they come back for more...
Did I mention integrity? What about leadership? Innovation? When they make the movie, it will star Tom Hanks, and will portray him as a "Horse Whisperer" of basketball players...
In fairness, I understand what you are up against, because you have no idea who he is. Someone told me about this guy about 5 years ago, so I went to see his open gym one Saturday morning. There was a gym full of players from schools all over the dang place. Private schools, public schools, it did not seem to matter, there were even 3 guys there from LSU. Not just students mind you, scholarship players from LSU.
It would be a HUGE loss to the community if he decided to coach in the college ranks, so I certainly hope he would not even consider the position; but if you are looking for that rare 1 in a million guy that can turn mice and pumpkins into championships, he is your man IMO!
