Any one know more about this?

  2. Ragin' Cajuns State's higher ed system likely to undergo shakeup

Louisiana has multiple systems of higher education with similar missions, so lawmakers and education officials are considering structural changes, said higher education commissioner Joseph Savoie.

In a few weeks, the Louisiana Board of Regents will start a comprehensive review of higher education.

Louisiana has four systems — the Louisiana State University System, University of Louisiana System, Southern University System, and the Louisiana Community and Technical College System. The Board of Regents oversees all of them as well as 10 private schools.

Legislation is proposed now to abolish the systems and create one super-board. But more likely to emerge are realignment, mergers and consolidation.

One of the most popular proposals is merging Louisiana Tech University with LSU-Shreveport and LSU Health Sciences Center at Shreveport, and moving Tech from the UL System into the LSU System. This was suggested in a February LSU study.

Under its proposal, the University of New Orleans would move from the LSU System to the UL System.

Savoie is not backing any changes yet, but he is intrigued.

"Does it make sense for Shreveport ... to have a research university presence?" he said. "Whether that means mergers or more programs linked, it makes sense."

Tech President Dan Reneau said the proposals must still be evaluated to see "if the marriage is right." But it is definitely a topic on his mind.

Retiring LSU System President William Jenkins has been a target of some lawmakers who say he was forced out because he opposed realignment of the LSU System and did not want to lose UNO.

Jenkins has denied those claims. It is LSU that first commissioned the study discussing Tech's merger, he reminded.

How about you move to Baton Rouge, and keep yourself occupied on Tigerdroppings. Your screen name suggests you live, work, sleep, eat, raise a family, are completely rooted in Lafayette. Yet all your money goes east. All your support goes east. You come on here waiting for people to trash your school, but wait it isnt, you live in Lafayette. Your the problem. So that begs the question? Why do you live in Lafayette when everything for you points east? Is Lafayette not good enough for you? Does Baton Rouge really make you all tingly in the shorts? Why cant you see, without UL, this great university in Lafayette, your screen name doesnt ____ing exist? Show some sack, support your local university or get the hell out of town!

Historically speaking, LSU will never be on the same level as Alabama, USC, Texas, etc. However, that doesn't take away from the fact that LSU boasts a very good program from a historical perspective. Since my birthdate in 1980, both Bama and UT have been credited with one national championship. Ole Miss was a power back in the 50's and 60's but that doesn't have much relevance today. Notre Dame's history is incredibley rich and when is the last time they were relevant? With Les Miles at the helm, you are probably spot on about LSU not challenging for a national title. However, two more years similar to what we witnessed this season and last and Les will be shown the door. LSU obviously has plenty of money to bring in a top flight coach. Not to mention the job is very attractive when you consider top rate facilities and a fertile recruiting state with no significant in-state competition. Bertman went for the cheap hire with Miles and I doubt Alleva will make that same mistake when the time comes.

LSU's program from an all-time perspective:

    All-time wins- 12th NCAA
    All-time winning pct.- 13th NCAA
    Bowl game appearances- 9th NCAA
    Bowl game wins- 10th NCAA

There are plenty of BCS programs that would love to have these credentials. _
But here is the thing about those 2 BCS titles LSU won. The BCS was inventened. If the BCS was not around LSU would have that lone one NC and a half of one in 03. In 2007, no way LSU gets a NC title shot after losing to an unranked team unless its for the BCS title.

There are two programs right now, that get more press, and will always get more press than LSU. These two teams are Notre Dame and Michigan. These two teams, if they go winless for the next 4 years will always get more press than LSU because they have tradition. LSU's tradition has always been middle of the pack. If they arent winning they arent talking about em. This rise to faux elite status is only because of Nick Saban who now has it cranking in Tuscaloosa. Miles cannot recruit. His recruits look sorry compared to Sabans. I dont see LSU beating Bama anytime soon. And with Houston Nutt in Oxford I dont see LSU beating Ole Miss anytime soon. The faux elite status is fading fast. The rest of the SEC caught up and is doing it better than LSU. This is gonna be a bad bad decade for LSU football. All the fans know it. Out and about in Lafayette last night, no purple and gold out there. These are bandwagon fans, and they are quick to leave and take their money with em.

We know why the gap exists between UL and LSU dont we? The state wanted only one power and did everything possible to get it. Sure, we may get to a bowl game here and there eventually. But the state limitations on our budget, the LSU controlled Legislature will never allow any other state institution to even sniff LSU. With the economic base UL has we could do it. But the state wont let. So dont beat your chest too hard, the State has given LSU every single opportunity to be a national power, while they have given UL just enough to go 6-6. Soon the RCAF will grow to some high number, and the state will shut it down because god forbid we try and compete with that purple mess. You can throw your rankings around all you want about all time wins etc., every other program ahead of them, did it with a powerful instate rival competing with em. You see why there is so much hate now? LSU doesnt deserve anything they have acheived. They have been gifted everything. You think Texas would love to see A&M with a 10 million dollar budget? Huey Long broke the states back to make LSU something it should have never been. And you want me to throw up my hands and praise them for their accomplishments. ____ that. I hope this clears it up. I hope you finally realize why we hate that purple abomination. Jealousy. Yes. Hatred. Yes. We wouldnt be human if we didnt feel those emotions. But dont throw around all time rankings when you of all people know exactly how they got there.

All the numbers cited above rank in the top 11% of college football. If that's "middle of the pack", then I'll take it every time. Thankfully I know quite a few UL alum that don't feel this way about LSU. In fact, I see a lot of them wearing purple and gold in BR on gameday. Likewise, I wear UL colors when I attend a Cajuns sporting event in Lafayette.

Rather it be in Lafayette, Lake Charles, New Orleans, Alexandria, Shreveport, or Monroe...you are in Louisiana and most people choose to support our states #1 university, our flagship (LSU)...then support their Regional universities. So of course most people are going to send money to LSU, then support their local universities, especially from the last decade. I too live in Lafayette, but support LSU as our states flagship university (I do not have tickets, but do send a monthly donation to the Tiger Athletic Foundation) then LA Tech as my regional school. Especially with this decade...

This decade of LSU football was the best 10 years ever of LSU football (only behind USC in accomplishments).

    From 2000-2010...

-6,569,209 people attended LSU home games at Tiger Stadium.

    -LSU went 99-31

-LSU went to 10 Bowl Games and won 7

-LSU had a bowl winning percentage of 70%

-LSU went 4-0 in BCS bowls vs top 10 teams

-LSU won 4 SEC West Championships

-LSU went to 4 SEC Championships

    -LSU won 3 SEC Championships

    -LSU won 2 National Championships

-LSU had 48 players selected in the NFL Draft (9 in the first round)

In this decade LSU improved to having 48 National Championships the most in the SEC.

Wrong...U-L-L actually gets the most athletic funding in this state. Without LSU being self-supportive you would get less. You do less with more than anyone else in this state.
