Thread: Shuffling of UL & LSU Systems

    UL 1984, 1999 . . . . Shuffling of UL & LSU Systems

Have any of you heard about the latest ideas our illustrious State Government has come up with.

La Tech to LSU system and UNO to UL system. How stupid is that. I bet Tech alumni are going, "What the ____".

Someone suggested that LSU wants to dump UNO because of the cost to rebuild it. It would be a burden to LSU. OH, as if UL system can afford it.

And here is another great fact. The UL System President , Sally Clausen, sleeping with B. Boudreaux, President of the LSU Board of Regents. I wonder what she says in her sleep. To me that is a conflict of interest to our system. She needs to resign or we need to boot her. I don't care how loyal you think you are, you can't be loyal to both. It is a dangerous situation.

I don't believe Ms. Clausen is truly loyal to our UL cause since she has strongly desired to become LSU Chancellor. WAKE UP UL SYSTEM.

I want to say she is a LSU grad, and there is some other guy that was moved into a directors position from the Shreveport area that is also a LSU grad that in my eyes will run the UL system for LSU if Lil Salley goes over to the LSU system.

    Just watch,

Well all I have to say is that we need at the very least a ULS grad with strong evidence of support for the UL system and nothing for the LSU system. I would prefer a national search and let the person with the best credentials win, as long as that person is not involved with LSU because I have zero trust in those guys being strong advocates for the UL system if it is at odds with the LSU system.

Just so long as the ULS grad is from a UL school in Louisiana not Arkansas.

  7. Research LSU board slows president selection process

BATON ROUGE -- An LSU Board of Supervisors' vote Friday effectively slowed down the process of picking a successor to system president William Jenkins.

Choosing to hire a consultant to study both the qualities it wants in a new leader as well as the future of the 11 LSU institutions that serve 64,000 students, board members virtually assured Jenkins will remain in his post up to 18 months longer.

The board voted without objection to hire the consultant recommended by its senior staff, rejecting two firms with ties to the rival University of Louisiana system and the state Board of Regents.

The consultant's review of the future of the LSU system "shall not include any consideration of realignment or merger of LSU system entitites," according to the board's resolution.

That was a direct swipe at Commissioner of Higher Education Joe Savoie and the UL system leaders who have been in informal talks about pealing off such LSU branches as LSU-Eunice, LSU-Alexandria and merging LSU-Shreveport with Louisiana Tech and placing those institutions in the UL system.

The realignment discussions were secret until a state senator charged that former LSU Board Chairman Bernie Boudreaux was forcing Jenkins out and trying to pave the way for Boudreaux's girlfriend, UL System president Sally Clausen, to get the top LSU job.

Boudreaux and Clausen denied there was any conspiracy to install her as LSU system president.

Clausen has refused to say she would not apply for the job, saying it was a matter of principle.

Sen. Robert Barham, R-Oak Ridge, also said part of the undercurrent surrounding the Jenkins matter was his resistance to the realignment discussions in which Boudreaux, Savoie and Clausen were participating.

This is a GREAT IDEA Re: Shuffling of UL & LSU Systems

Little Rock has lots of good candidates.

  9. Louisiana Is there a conspiracy?

Talk of removing campuses from the LSU System, speculation System President Bill Jenkins was pressured into resigning, charges the board chairman maneuvered to have his girlfriend replace Jenkins and a perception Gov. Blanco is anti-LSU have many worried LSU's flagship agenda is under attack.

From the moment Kathleen Blanco was elected nearly two-and-a-half years ago, the question LSU supporters everywhere feared was when, not if, the new governor and her hard-charging husband would unleash a political power play designed to strengthen the University of Louisiana System--anchored by their hometown UL-Lafayette--at the expense of LSU and its 10-campus system.

So when a bizarre series of events began playing out in recent months, it appeared to many Old War Skule supporters their worst fears were becoming real. The unfolding drama reads like a script straight from the daytime soaps:

" Reorganizing the state's bloated higher education system has been discussed for decades, but post-Katrina economic realities have cast a more urgent light on the topic. Among the proposals is one moving three LSU System campuses, including the University of New Orleans, to the UL System.

" Then came last month's stunning announcement from William Jenkins that he was resigning as LSU System president. Several officials privately said a faction of the LSU Board of Supervisors, led by its chairman, Bernie Boudreaux, pressured Jenkins to depart. Meanwhile, two state senators rushed to the microphones to link the resignation to Jenkins' opposition to the proposed removal of UNO from the LSU System.

" What followed was a bombshell by Sen. Robert Barham and others, who alleged Boudreaux essentially rigged the selection committee to ensure UL System President Sally Clausen, also Boudreaux's girlfriend, would replace Jenkins.

Ragin' Cajuns Re: Shuffling of UL & LSU Systems

This will be interesting! I too do not see how just swapping schools between systems and their debts will change the facts that the state has already too many to fund. Fundamental changes in funding is one area to look hard at within our state system. Whomever is choosen to reveiw our systems and suggest changes, I am sure could point to the fact that every state in the Union has a University of and State school system everyone that is except Louisiana and Arkansas, need I say more.

Having a University of Louisiana and Louisiana State System compete with each other instead of Louisiana State getting the lions share would promote competition for research monies. This would do away with the ways of old and start to change the view of our state as "everyone" knows it to be, shall we say "bannana republic" or how about "tar pit"!!!

Change will raise anxieties within each system and rightfully so as everyone wants theirs, but saving what we have so to see another day is what must be done.

We think the Saints have problems with having thirty something years of being a losing franchise how about Higher Education dating back to Huey P. Long or "LONGer", no pund intended.

As I hope the Saints are starting to move forward with all their changes so I hope our "tar pit" and "bannana republic", 60%+ LSU ran legislature is ready to make some "REAL POSITIVE" changes that may affect their beloved "Flagship Status" for the betterment of the state and its people. For as many years as WE can remember LSU has been the FLAGSHIP and for as many years LOUISIANA has had these problems, IT IS TIME FOR A CHANGE of some sort.

IN ALL WALKS OF LIFE, BUSINESS, SPORTS, GOVERNMENT, RESEARCH, COMPETITION DRIVES "THE BOAT OF BEST RESULTS" FOR THE PEOPLE!!! SO NOW AS SO MUCH OF OUR STATE IS UNDERGOING CHANGE IN LAKE CHARLES(CAMERON) AND NEW ORLEANS SO TO MUST HIGHER ED AND OUR GOVERNMET DO WHAT IS BEST FOR OUR FUTURE GENERATIONS OF LOUISIANA CHILDEREN!!! COMPETITION IS WHERE IT IS AT!!!!

IF THEY AS THEY(legislature) HAVE FOR SO MANY YEARS CHOOSE AGAIN TO THWARF THE ADVANCEMENT OF THE STATE OF LOUISIANA AND ITS CHILDREN THEN MAYBE JUST MAYBE WE WILL BE ABLE TO PUT UP SOME REAL COMPETITION FOR THEIR PROVERBIAL SEATS!!!

Any one know more about this?

  12. Ragin' Cajuns State's higher ed system likely to undergo shakeup

Louisiana has multiple systems of higher education with similar missions, so lawmakers and education officials are considering structural changes, said higher education commissioner Joseph Savoie.

In a few weeks, the Louisiana Board of Regents will start a comprehensive review of higher education.

Louisiana has four systems — the Louisiana State University System, University of Louisiana System, Southern University System, and the Louisiana Community and Technical College System. The Board of Regents oversees all of them as well as 10 private schools.

Legislation is proposed now to abolish the systems and create one super-board. But more likely to emerge are realignment, mergers and consolidation.

One of the most popular proposals is merging Louisiana Tech University with LSU-Shreveport and LSU Health Sciences Center at Shreveport, and moving Tech from the UL System into the LSU System. This was suggested in a February LSU study.

Under its proposal, the University of New Orleans would move from the LSU System to the UL System.

Savoie is not backing any changes yet, but he is intrigued.

"Does it make sense for Shreveport ... to have a research university presence?" he said. "Whether that means mergers or more programs linked, it makes sense."

Tech President Dan Reneau said the proposals must still be evaluated to see "if the marriage is right." But it is definitely a topic on his mind.

Retiring LSU System President William Jenkins has been a target of some lawmakers who say he was forced out because he opposed realignment of the LSU System and did not want to lose UNO.

Jenkins has denied those claims. It is LSU that first commissioned the study discussing Tech's merger, he reminded.
