I too live in Lafayette, but support LSU as our states flagship university (I do not have tickets, but do send a monthly donation to the Tiger Athletic Foundation) then LA Tech as my regional school. Especially with this decade...

This decade of LSU football was the best 10 years ever of LSU football (only behind USC in accomplishments).

    From 2000-2010...

-6,569,209 people attended LSU home games at Tiger Stadium.

    -LSU went 99-31

-LSU went to 10 Bowl Games and won 7

-LSU had a bowl winning percentage of 70%

-LSU went 4-0 in BCS bowls vs top 10 teams

-LSU won 4 SEC West Championships

-LSU went to 4 SEC Championships

    -LSU won 3 SEC Championships

    -LSU won 2 National Championships

-LSU had 48 players selected in the NFL Draft (9 in the first round)

In this decade LSU improved to having 48 National Championships the most in the SEC. _
Only in this state does that kind of reasoning seem to make sense to some. Could you imagine people in Texas... or Alabama... or Florida doing that? How stupid.

If I had attended LSU, I would then consider them "my university" and would support them accordingly. I did NOT attend LSU (thankfully), so have absolutely NO reason to provide them with my support. That would undercut my own university... PERIOD!

Hawk, I "kinda" understand your frustrations, but to say Miles is not a good recruiter is ridiculous. Actually, that's the only thing he's good at. Now, if you want to say, he can't coach them when they get to LSU, I'll agree with that 100%.

Also, I'll bring this up for the 789th time - on many other forums. To say that LSU won the 2007 National Championship because of Saban's recruits is ignorant. (This is not directed to you, Hawk.)

If you believe that logic, then you have to concede that LSU won the 2003 Championship because of DiNardo's recruits. And that Bama has gone undefeated this year because of Shula's recruits. Guess what, LSU lost 1 game Saban's Championship year and lost 4 games his last year, which was his 4th. Hmmm? So, Saban went from losing one to four games when that was the year his team should have been all his recruits. Hmmmm? Not so, Godlike right?

Lastly, I've known some people who have graduated from UL that live in BR. Do they have support LSU or move back to Lafayette? This kind of logic is really childish.

Wait, so you think this is unique to only Louisiana? Let's see, one of my best friends played golf at South Al and he gives money to the Univ of Alabama. One guy in my office graduated from UH and he has season tickets to UT. Another guy graduated from SMU and has season tickets to A&M. My family has donated money to UL and not one of them has graduated from there. However, they live in Lafayette and they like to contribute to the local school. I have three friends that graduated from UL and they are all big Alabama fans (way before this season). None of them ever lived a day or even have family in the state of Alabama. That doesn't make sense to me either....

You will always find exceptions... people who do as you described for whatever reasons they may have.

I simply wanted to comment on the fact that in this state it is preached by some that it is the obligation of all Louisianians to contribute and support the "state school". I mentioned that I have only one such university... UL. I have nothing to do with LSU -- it is not MY "state school", nor should it be.

I've become an Alabama fan too. I love watching them kick the crap out of LSU.

Yeah, I suppose that's their reasoning as well. Oh well, whatever floats your boat. I'll be a Bama "fan" this Thursday as well.

"it is not MY "state school", nor should it be."

Actually if you live in Louisiana it is. You don't have to like it...but it is what it is...The Flagship of this state, and the only tier 1 university in this state.

That is what I heard also every state has to have one.

I'm just amazed at the method used to make it happen
