Thread: Softball Offseason

This may be going out on a limb, but could it be an HR or budget issue?

No idea if the 2 coaches in question left or were let go, but lets assume as with most employment, someone doesnt usually leave in one day and stop getting paid that exact day. Is it possible there was some sort of severance or agreement that pay continues until a certain day. In which case the new employees cant start receiving their pay/i.e. come onboard (maybe even be advertised for) until that date passes or equiv of those days that are equal to the severance passes

Not sure if they have or had an idea of who to replace them with. The issue is they haven't been replaced yet. Hopefully the hires are made soon.

I have never known ahead of time who the next employee would be prior to any individual leaving any organization ive ever worked for. Always a gap.

I know the University is under huge budget constraints right now and a hiring freeze. Fiscal year starts July 1st. So "officially" I can't see anything happening until then. Obviously they can be talking, and looking for new coaches at this stage and I'm sure they are.

As good as time as any then to ask, what were the employment parameters/expectations. For example when a coach goes coach pro over the summer. While it coukd be a good recruiting tool/univ recogntion, what is the book answer from HR, is that a pay docked or leave used type scenario?
And would that be consistent against across all.sports and academic departments

GTFO you can't be serious. The MBB coach just hired a full staff. These positions have to be filled.

They were let go. I said that over and over.

Nobody said they should know who. What was said is they should have a candidate list of potential hires.

The season ended 5 weeks ago, a month before the season even ended I knew that Shelbie and Shellie most likely would not be retained. Shellie for performance and unethical reasons and Shelbie for unethical reasons. That 9 weeks minimum that Coach knew and probably longer that these ladies would need to be replaced. Coach Aly is a 25 year plus veteran and Lacy is a 10 year plus veteran. Coach should have a top 10 list of who she wants to hire if any position on her staff ever becomes open. Where she hires her new coaches she still should have another list. Why they have not named a coach yet for pitching or hitting is unacceptable to the standard of this program. This program isn't a Johnny come lately program folks should be blowing up her phone wanting to work at UL. Schools smaller than UL are hiring head coaches, assistant coaches, signing portal players, getting future verbal commitments. As a financial supporter of this program it's fair that I think someone needs to show some URGENCY. That's all I am asking. I have been a long time supporter of UL with various season tickets, sports specific funds, rcaf, NIL, etc. 2026 will be a make or break season for me in regards to dishing out money. I along with many others can just sit at home in the AC, eat my own food, drink my own drinks, use my own restroom etc for free. I'm sorry I just am not seeing the URGENCY. I'm trying to trust the process but it's harder when smaller schools are doing more than us. We have a first team 4A all state outfielder right here in Lafayette and we don't even recruit that kid. In my opinion and many others she was the best overall player on the STM roster. Not sure what the plan is for this program.. Rant over.
Here's what I would say to your post. If you are concerned, give Coach Habetz a call and address it. It's been my experience that most coaches don't make changes without have people identified for those positions. As I stated, it's very possible she may have those coaches on campus soon doing work, but the state law requires them to be posted. This has been my experience when it comes to football in the past. If that is the case, the administration will not state anything publicly until the contracts are official.

It sounds to me like you have trust issues with Coach Habetz. This is the person that the majority of Cajun Softball fans wanted as the new face of the program. You also supported her hire. Either give her a chance to build her program and trust in the process or jump off. Many of you are closer to the program than I, so I really don't share your concern at this point. I don't know what kind of NIL has been raised and what she needs to move forward. As for as prospects, there will always be different opinions on signees, especially local. If you are talking about Baily or Segura, one of the parents frequents this forum.

    Just My Opinion.
