I think you’re overselling what the naysayers are saying. We’ve had teams where the quarterback is what the other teams have to contain. Babb, Mitchell, Delhomme, Desormeaux, Henry are some of the best. Not many. Then there was a healthy Broadway, and again we’re a quarterback led team. I think it’s fair to say Levi isn’t that player. He’s doing a good job of playing to his strengths. Still if I’m the defense I’m saying prove you can beat me, I’m containing the run, containing the jet sweeps. I’ll go one on one deep.
This Levi discussion has become stupid because people make it stupid. And these extreme terms that people use to describe him and his ability conflate the problem.
He's a good QB, in a great system (that usually highlights his strengths), on one of the best football teams we've ever had. In certain situations, he is limited. When the plan doesn't work, the limitations are more obvious than the times when the plan does work. He has definitely played a role in this year's success.
The kid is coming off of his best game as D1 QB. As I said on the podcast, I think his ceiling is still high. I know Billy & Co will get the best out of him. How good that can be is yet to be seen.
I would argue that we’ve seen how good he’s can be on multiple occasions this season. He not going to be Joe Burrow, but when given time to throw he’s shown the ability to execute the offense and when time isn’t there he minimizes the damage better than any QB I’ve seen here.
