UL Football FB: What Seniors come back?

Looking at the Roster, what Seniors do you think will come back for another year?

Coach Napier talked about this at the first QB Club. That was over five weeks ago so I don't remember all the details. I think we have 13 seniors. He expected about five or six to return, a couple hope to get into the NFL, and the remainder to move on with real life. Elijah Mitchell is one highly likely to get drafted by the NFL so he won't return. I don't recall the names of all who he expected to return. I do remember him very CLEARLY saying Levi Lewis will return and be our QB in 2021. On another front, he also said he expected Tayland Humphrey to go to the NFL but there was a chance he would return. I can't judge nose tackles from stats as they allow others to make tackles. Still, I would think he may improve his draft stock if he played an additional year in college.

He needs to get in better shape and quit playing dirty.

Coach Napier said CLEARLY that Lewis would return in 2021 and be our QB in 2021 (as in starter for 2021) ? I want to make sure I read this right?

We are millions of miles away from Lewis convincing Hud on the futility of redshirting him because he would most definitely be grad gone in 3 years.

Did the NCAA grant seniors an extra year of eligibility?

I haven't seen the documentation, but I've read several times that they have.

Levi 2021, I bet many of you were sweating that one. You can feel good now.

You know what Vic, it's not personal. Everyone would love to see Levi make great decisions and accurate throws and play at a high level to bring this team up a notch. Not one person would be upset about that. It just hasn't happened and it may not ever happen. People want to see a QB that plays well consistently and brings a passing game threat to the teams we play. And yes, it takes more than just the QB.

You did read it correctly. I am more reluctant every day to share QB Club news here. However, in this instance it was five weeks ago and no harm comes to the team in sharing it. Now that was over a month ago. Things can always change. Levi may decide to go into real life after graduation.

As the game is over, I can now tell you that QB club folks in the Wednesday Zoom call knew Butler would not play. We also got a hint we could limit their passing game as Coach felt the lack of mobility by the UAB QB club would work in our favor.

They have DEFINITELY been granted an extra year of eligibility. Not only seniors, every player. Learned yesterday that goes for basketball too. Scholarship limits increase the following year based upon how many seniors you have returning. We think we will have around 90 in football next year and 15 in basketball. Those compare to the normal 85 and 13.

Levi has played at that high level at times. Last year he did so in wins over Coastal, Troy,
Arkansas State, and the bowl game. He was a different player in the second half last night vs the first half. I like everyone else would like to see performances like that occur on a more frequent basis. I am sure Levi plans on continuing to work to make that happen.
