So in those “rebuilding years” which you say are exceptable with championships here and there what is wrong with a CIT appearance? The only way to get to the NIT is just like last year, win the conference but fall in the tournament. If we put together a team good enough to win the conference I would hope they could take care of business and win the tournament too. That can’t happen every year, and I would hope to get this program to the point where even in a “rebuilding” year they could still put a team on the floor that could finish in the upper third of the conference and have at least in the high teens total wins. A team like that playing in one of the “C” tournaments is fine with me. There also should be enough support for this program where a team like that could play in a “pay to play” and not lose money.

I think most here who were around back in the Evans era would agree that the 02 and 03 teams were very good. Both years they ended up a little short of their goals and played in the NIT. In today’s landscape those teams wouldn’t be in the NIT, if they wanted to continue their season after the tournament loss it would be a “C” tournament.

I just don't think a tournament where you have to pay to play is something the fans will get excited for. Anything short of consistent appearances in the NCAA tournament and the NIT here and there is not a good season for the amount of money we pony up to this staff. Again, we aren't in the ACC or the Big 10. This is the Sunbelt. In reality, you have two teams a year that you really have to compete against, one of which has your number.

The landscape of football is slightly different. We were invited to play in the cure bowl due to the fact that we were western division championships. We have zero chance of competing with the "big boys" in the Cure Bowl. In basketball (baseball and softball too), the NCAA gives out tournament slots so "little Joe" get a chance to compete with "big John." In basketball, that is your opportunity at free marketing. If college baseball was more popular outside of the deep south, we would have the same opportunity as well. The Big Dance is your chance to perhaps even win a national title in something. I am not saying that is the expectation right now, but getting into the dance relatively consistently is not too much to ask, given the conference slate we have to get through.
The time will come when the football expectations will have to meet the investment there. Nape did a fine job this year. As long as he builds on that, I think those of us with high expectations will have no problem donating to that cause.

Don’t quote me on this, but I think I heard someone say that the CIT tournament cost around $60k to play in. I personally think that’s $60k too much.
