As long as they make a NCAA postseason game it's the same thing as making the dance. No other sport is buying their way into postseason

    Damn...good response.

If you're going that route don't forget the 24 teams in FCS playoffs. Most of those also make those C whatever pay to play. So in essence Marlin either won or lost to FCS teams. Y'all really need to can that nonsense.

That can’t happen every year, and I would hope to get this program to the point where even in a “rebuilding” year they could still put a team on the floor that could finish in the upper third of the conference and have at least in the high teens total wins. A team like that playing in one of the “C” tournaments is fine with me. There also should be enough support for this program where a team like that could play in a “pay to play” and not lose money.
Those buy-in tournaments are a joke. So basically, if we don’t get into the NCAA tournament or the NIT, then we should waste money on buying our way into some consolation tournament?

To me, it’s a waste of money and a waste of time. If we aren’t good enough to make the main postseason tournaments, we don’t deserve to make the postseason.

Almost every bowl is a buy-in.

I think most here who were around back in the Evans era would agree that the 02 and 03 teams were very good. Both years they ended up a little short of their goals and played in the NIT. In today’s landscape those teams wouldn’t be in the NIT, if they wanted to continue their season after the tournament loss it would be a “C” tournament.
I just don't think a tournament where you have to pay to play is something the fans will get excited for. Anything short of consistent appearances in the NCAA tournament and the NIT here and there is not a good season for the amount of money we pony up to this staff. Again, we aren't in the ACC or the Big 10. This is the Sunbelt. In reality, you have two teams a year that you really have to compete against, one of which has your number.

That dude was a complete snowflake. Way over-sensitive about everything. Probably voted for Hillary and Beto.

The landscape of football is slightly different. We were invited to play in the cure bowl due to the fact that we were western division championships. We have zero chance of competing with the "big boys" in the Cure Bowl. In basketball (baseball and softball too), the NCAA gives out tournament slots so "little Joe" get a chance to compete with "big John." In basketball, that is your opportunity at free marketing. If college baseball was more popular outside of the deep south, we would have the same opportunity as well. The Big Dance is your chance to perhaps even win a national title in something. I am not saying that is the expectation right now, but getting into the dance relatively consistently is not too much to ask, given the conference slate we have to get through.
The time will come when the football expectations will have to meet the investment there. Nape did a fine job this year. As long as he builds on that, I think those of us with high expectations will have no problem donating to that cause.

I have no interest in the C tournaments, but I also have no problem with the team playing in them. They are basically like practice games that have no meaning but may give the team a little edge on the next season. I am not sure what it costs to play in them though, so that might be a factor.

The ACC or Big 10 salaries would be triple what we're paying our staff.

Don’t quote me on this, but I think I heard someone say that the CIT tournament cost around $60k to play in. I personally think that’s $60k too much.
