Morning Turbine.. Sometimes I forget how much I enjoyed this board. It is so easy to get people riled up!

We are on the same page for the most part. I can see where the casual fan would not have the interest in those tournaments and by no means am I saying they should be the standard for the postseason. I’m thinking with the right level of success there would be enough interest in the program to where you don’t lose money, or at least negate the cost to a minimum for the extra practice and game experience in a rebuilding year. However maybe that level of interest in basketball as a whole in this area has passed us by.
Generally you have to pay to host in the minor tournaments. Think it is about 15 grand per game. Unlike what has been suggested here, opponents in those games are not necessarily equivalent to D2 Schools. Evansville and Cal Irvine are schools we have played in such tournaments. Those are schools we would like to play at home in the regular season. It has been reported here that the AD is not in favor of participating in these so this discussion is likely moot unless someone foots the bill. Speaking of cost, money you lose going to a bowl game greatly exceeds participating in a minor basketball tournament. The publicity is worth it there however.
I definitely agree here. Paying our way into a tournament for a consoled "pat on the back" is not the direction that I have in mind for the program. It's time to earn that pay and make the postseason games that we are actually invited to participate in.
As for bowl games, most participating schools can lose money outside of the main P5 competition. But unlike the CIT, we get the chance to be on national tv at prime time.
