Thread: Another Cajun in the Boat!

There is no doubt, we have never experienced this before. We expected it, wanted it, hoped for it, almost had it, but didn't. This explosion onto the football relevant scene is happening at a rapid pace. It's a good time to be Ragin Cajun fan. I think most forum fans here are cautious, and should be, we have been teased before. This staff, and professionally run admin support, is what is different.

Right now, we are experiencing what NO OTHER university in the state of Louisiana has experienced outside of BR on the recruiting trail. Tulane had a couple of real good in state recruiting years in the early 2010's that really didn't translate onto the field.

If these classes translate onto the field, we have a top 60 program in the nation. Is that enough for the next wave or realignment/TV contracts? Who knows, but it puts us squarely in the conversations, which we really haven't been in, in the past.

I agree. Reminds me a lot of these two classes. Local kids decided they wanted to play together and represent the state of Louisiana. The rest was history....

LSU - 2011 Class ("The Fam")

This class, if all sign and get into school, is the very best class we have ever signed on paper. Sign a 2020 class as good as this one and we will have a 10 win program.

I don’t think you guys can really grasp how good this class is. It starts with Chandler Fields, then look at the defense. Guys, we are going to sign an entire defense that may be more talented right now than anyone we have currently on the roster. These guys are monsters. Watch Spencer, Guidry, Hutchinson, Henderson and the other CB’s film. These cats are dominate.

Now go look at the Legendre kid, he is the most explosive athlete in LHSAA. He is unreal. The kid from N Desoto is ridiculous too.

We are talking about a class, that as it stands now, worst recruit would be our best signee in the last 5 years. Think about that.

It’s never happened, let alone all in the same class.
I'm not really looking at where we are getting these players. Its a good sign that this is happening but we've been here before after a coaching change where we see a bump in recruiting for a couple years. The problem we ran into is that Hud was not able to build off of those early years for the long haul. I'm like Mike, I will take a cautiously optimistic approach with this program over the next year or two because I don't know how this staff will coach and prepare these guys to where we are building sustained success. Only time will tell.

You're right, I really can't grasp how good this class is since they haven't even played their senior season in high school yet, its hard for anyone to. Sure we can project them out in a few years but we have no idea how good this staff is at actually coaching these guys up. I suspect they will be better than the previous staff but I don't know. Its not a sense of negativity but I just hate to assume when dealing with 17-18 year old kids at this point.

Not to play devils advocate here, but I will. As good as this class is, we still rank behind stAte and Troy in player average rating. We are ahead of these two just by shear number of recruits we have, but stAte has 5 recruits with an 83.19 average and Troy has 5 recruits with an amazing 84.39 average. We have 16 recruits with only an 82.19 average. If you go by pure average we are not close to the top 50.

stAte has a whopping 4 commits at the moment. We’ll see how their average rating holds up as their class fills out.
