Thread: New Turf on Cajun Field

Default Re: When will new Turf be installed

The turf will be sand filled, unlike STM, and is a "2 generation" upgrade from the turf in the training facility.

As of the Friday, last week, the contract had not yet been signed, but it is a done deal and the contract could be signed "any minute".

I spoke with one of the coaches the other day and we will be using a sand infill and not the rubber infill. This will look much better and will be cooler in the heat.

the field we are putting down is meant to become less slippery when rained on and will not get as hot in the sun as the turf with rubber pellets.

I think that is wrong. I think STM has the same turf as Ark. St. and what McNeese is installing. It is GSE Geosport Geomax turf. The infill material is not black rubber. Check the project list on their website and the project pictures.

Pro-Green is from a totally different company. And uses the black rubber infill material.

Okay, if it is Pro-Green why does Geosports claim it, have it listed in their projects section, and have a picture of it on their project photo area.

See link of project photos below:

Yeah I'm an idiot; Not the first nor the last time I stand corrected. For some reason I just remember Pro-Green.

What I learned about rubber pellets versus sand is on a hot day, the rubber gets hot and the field temperature also rises causeing the players to get the brunt of it. I learned this from a young high school soccer player that plays soccer on the Independence Stadium's field and he HATES playing on the rubber filled turf. He told me it somewhat unbearable at times.
I think rubber is recommended for inside and sand for outside, just what I heard from higher ups

Just found out that when STM first started the installation the company was named Pro-Green . By the end of installation Pro-Green switched to the name Geosport. Looks like we were both right. On a seconded note, the rubber has more longevity and is truly a better investment creating much more cost then sand. Over time the sand will get solid and almost act like concrete instead of grass.
