    What?

Go back and look at the history of realignment for G5 schools.

Perception kept us out of the original CUSA group. The comment to Doc A was, "I just can't sell SW LA to our season ticket holders".

    We told the WAC no.

Realignment was happening above our level all this time between P5 leagues that killed the Big East and created the MWC and later the AAC. All of that was based on MONEY with a focus on budget.

Then CUSA reloaded and expanded. All of that was based on MONEY with a focus on TV numbers.

Show me where realignment was based on number of wins.

We never attempted to get into CUSA when it was formed.....and don't argue with me....I know exactly what we did because I was there.....nothing. if you were told anything else you were lied to.

Boise became who they are by dominating average to below average schedules, they built a football program plenty worthy of a P5 invite that way and would be in a P5 if their academics were not terrible. Given our situation in this state and this administration the money you speak of will have to come from donors. To get a lot of fans that will give consistently you must win, win big and win consistently. Boise built teams to beat powerhouse P5's by dominating G5's for years.

Was the plug pulled BECAUSE we didn't get a CUSA invite?

Was the plug pulled to not interfere with the oncoming Endowment push?

According to you, we never intended to pursue CUSA membership, and I was told a cover story. That would mean the latter was the reason we destroyed our athletic brand.

Boise did all of that, and couldn't get their arses out of the WAC. The MWC refused to add them until the MWC thought they had a shot at an autobid status to the BCS.

If not for that, Boise would have remained in the WAC until the MWC chose expansion a couple of years later and killed the WAC.

Are there any other examples of the stockpiling wins strategy? No, because it's nearly impossible to do that.

North Texas dominated, couldn't win non-conferfence, fell into a CUSA invite because of their zip code.

NIU? Heck, they even went to an Access Bowl. Where are they now?

    stAte? Not so much.

Any other G5's come close to dominating like Boise? Nope.

...but let's keep chasing that tail.

Boise academics held them back, everything else was in line...their geographic location isn't a plus either because p5's arent dying to recruit in Idaho. Everything they did football wise was correct. There is no set way to do it, going 7-5 and 6-6 with 3 P5's doesn't sound like a fail proof plan either. Boise found a way to compete and win against the big boys consistently and it was by establishing a dominant program. We aren't in a major tv market, we don't have student fees, we are in a talent rich area and need money, money that has to come from donors. Every school is in a different situation. To even have a shot we have to pa k the stadium, get 20k season ticket holders at least...to do that will take winning, and winning big. Whoring yourself out to powerhouses to make budget isn't gonna get you there...it will get us to where ULM is.

Once again, money is not the reason for maximizing our P5 games. That is an added benefit, but if your outlook is that all P5 games are just for whoring purposes, then the sad fact is you will never accomplish the goal of program advancement because you misunderstand how respect is earned in college football.

By the way, since Coach Hud has been here, our schedule strengths have never been lower since the split back in 1982, and our non-conference G5, regular season record stands at 3 wins and 6 losses.

Even if we fail to schedule Rice, Houston, SMU, Tech, Tulane or USM(whom I would schedule for recruiting purposes), and those 9 games had been replaced by P5 schools, we would be looking at 3 more losses total over the same time frame. We probably would have won at least one of them on top of that.

    OMG, the humanity.....

Or would you rather see a 10-2 record with 1 P5 game and a chance at 11-2 after the bowl win. Because I can promise you we ain't going 11-2 with even just 2 P5 games.
Playing three P5 programs, specifically in the SEC yearly does nothing for your program period. Beating P5 programs is as much about timing as anything else. This is a road that has been traveled before and it is not going to be better for this program today. If it were possible to play Kansas, Illinois or other bottom tier P5 programs on your schedule yearly, sure schedule away. But that's not reality and you won't make a living playing Alabama, Texas A&M or Miss State in the same year. Why? Because Alabama isn't that same program it was it Saban's first year and it will never be at that level in the near future. The same with Texas A&M, Arkansas or Ole Miss. All those programs have money to make changes when needed to avoid long term droughts; the gap between P5's and G5's grows larger everyday. Financially, it's millions above what it was a decade ago. Also, when using the Louisiana Tech model, which is only one model of how to schedule successfully, Boise State and Northern Illinois use a different model successfully; Louisiana Tech has hosted Miss State in Ruston and others in Shreveport. Also, Illinois was a bowl win and none of their P5 wins were over a ranked opponent. BTW, take a look at their future schedules and you what see they are not playing 3 P5 programs a year period! Playing three P5 programs a season does nothing for your brand long term if those programs aren't ranked and looks like an act of desperation to survive; Like ULM.

Boise State has seldom played three P5 games in a season, nor has Northern Illinois during the good run. They have played ranked teams in the regular season and in bowl games, and defeated them. That is entirely different than the Louisiana Tech model of defeating mediocre P5 teams. Do you lose anything by playing two P5 programs and a top G5 program like Houston, Boise State or UCF?

There is more than one way to give your program a chance to achieve against quality programs and raise your brand. But playing three P5's every season is now a losing model unless you are getting some of those games at home. We don't have a capable AD that can get home & homes against Miss State, Arizona, Baylor and a few others like his peers in the SBC. Hell, he's having a hard time getting quality G5 programs to Lafayette outside of Boise State and Tulsa. Fix that problem, then we can talk about proper scheduling for your programs success. Playing three P5 programs on the road is not a plan for success period!
