Like I said earlier, my reasons for doing this have nothing to do with funding. That is just an added benefit.

I like Nations idea, especially if we can get some 2 for 1s and the 3 P5 years are when we are getting the 1 coming to us. Then we do have 6 home games.

Mr. Farmer has said we will continue the Home and Dome series if it works, it will.

So, every year we would have 1 P5 one off money game, 1 P5 two for one or one for one, and 1 P5 Home and Dome.

Probably, about every other year, we would be hosting a P5 in the Dome or at Cajun Field.

But, some people here would rather host an Eastern Michigan, I guess we can do that every couple years instead.

When you can compete anyone anytime anyplace, your program grows. Getting beat by 35+ every time you play a P5, does absolutely nothing for growing your program.

How do you think Tech got the perception that they have a very good football program? It wasn't conference championships. It wasn't Bowl games. It was P5 wins. This is who they beat with the P5 schools they played that year.

1996 - beat Mississippi State (Miss St, Texas A&M, Arkansas)

1997 - beat Alabama and California (Arkansas, California, Auburn, Alabama)

1999 - beat Alabama (Florida State, Texas A&M, Alabama, USC)

2002 - beat Oklahoma State (Clemson, Ok St, Penn St, Texas A&M)

2003 - beat Michigan State (Miami, Michigan State, LSU)

2008 - beat Mississippi State (Kansas, Miss St)

2011 - beat Mississippi (Miss St, Ole Miss)

2012 - beat Illinois (Virginia, Illinois, Texas A&M)

2014 - beat Illinois in Bowl game (Oklahoma, Auburn)


They built their brand on P5 wins. You can't beat them if you are afraid to play them.

That's the ceiling? Then that is not a good way of doing things. Because perception wise they are only a baby step above ours. And that's not that good for pulling off wins against middle of the road P5 teams. None of those teams were world beaters when they beat them. Not even close. If they beat top ranked teams, or even middle of the road P5's and dominated their conference...that would be something. That's how you build a brand. Not saving up all your juice for your 15 minutes, and then blowing it against a 1-AA. La Tech's brand is marginal at best, better than ours, but not by leaps and bounds. They are not even close to a program we should emulate.

Sure I want us to play P5 teams and win, but it won't happen chasing the big guarantee game money against the elite. And I don't want to become a team that thinks winning every once in a while against a P5 while not dominating the conference I play in is a worthwhile modus operandi. That's ____ing in the wind. While it pays to play a P5, and play them strong, you build a brand by dominating the world around you. Our world right now, is Sun Belt. We can't even dominate that. Even through our 4 years of glory, we have no outright championships. You build from the ground up. You cannot build a 4 story house with a weak foundation.

And now we are not. But that is inconsequential. The only thing we should worry about with La Tech...is beating them on the field, court, diamond, budget wise. Everything else is much ado about nothing. Their success compared to ours is marginally better than ours. They are still stuck in the same limbo that we are.

Hawk, why is it an either/or proposition?

Why can't we dominate the conference AND schedule P5 games?

It's not all about wins either. We just went through 36 wins in 4 years including 4 Bowl wins, and our brand still sucks. One losing season, and it vanished. The fact is you guys go on and on about perception until y'all are blue in the face, but when it comes to trying to actually change the perception of the football program on the field y'all go all wobbly.

Following your logic of not scheduling more than 1 P5 game because we haven't dominated the SBC yet, then you have to turn down any offers from CUSA or the AAC because, OMG, we haven't won 20 SBC games in a row.

We shouldn't have did the end zone seating because we didn't sell out the previous for 2 seasons in a row?

If the Big-12 shocked the world and extended an invite to Dr. Savoie, we should turn it down, right? That's at least a couple of levels above the SBC, and Lord knows we can't even dominate that.
