Thread: Radio Waves

I get it. I love my XM. It allows me to listen to NATIONAL radio. We are talking about our beloved University which is in Lafayette. We have our flagship radio on the AM dial. You can't hear it once you get to the mall. I catch 870 for Saints talk in Lafayette, but I can't get 1420 at my house?? It's just aggravating, but it parallels our Leader's focus and direction regarding athletics.

I don't understand why those three callers calls are taken everyday during ever show. Why not just give Ronnie and Jay their own show? That way I would know when not to listen rather than change the channel every time I hear one of their voices.
I don't listen to local radio anymore. When I'm driving, it's either a podcast from my phone or SiriusXM, which I use to listen to national ESPN and/or commercial-free radio. The only time I'll flip over to 1420 or 870 is when something big locally is going on, like a big game or the draft, to hear some local thoughts. It doesn't last long before I remember why I don't listen and flip back to my regularly-scheduled programming.

That said: KYLE DOESN'T CALL IN ANYMORE?! When I was in college, I'd listen to Stevie P before class, Foote between classes, and Jay after class, and I'd more often than not hear Kyle call in with the same question/thought on all three shows. It was usually a highlight of my day, especially when he started to ramble or he and the host got into it a little bit.

And while we're on the topic, I'd like to take a second to remember Big Dave and Paul. Used to love hearing Big Dave get fired up about the NBA. One of the two or three times I've ever called in was to talk with him about the Lakers. And I'll never, ever forget Paul calling in talking about a Notre Dame game before Thanksgiving, and when asked what his go-to dessert was for turkey day in the middle of his call, responded with "mais...pumpkin piiieeeeeee."

Anyone who still listens, does Texas Mike still call?

I think that there may be like 3 callers.....THREE. But I don't listen anymore so.....??

Once again, not bashing Ryckman. He's got a great show.

it also seems like the time slots are a bit inconsistent. I realize if others jump off a bridge.... but most other areas of the country seem to have most of their shows in the three hour range. what is the rationale behind espn1420's scheduling system?

    Paul was my favorite.

I didn't know he attended UL until one day the topic was Alvin Dark and he called in and said he sat in Alvin Dark's chair.

Ronnie just hijacked the air waves around 3:00 for at least 10 minutes rambling about the NBA and the Durant drama.

I wish the locals would run callers like Rome does. Not a big fan of Rome but his show stays moving and he gives the best interviews in the business.

Isn't the problem with 1420 more of signal strength rather than AM/FM?

On a good clear day, I pick up Houston AM stations all the way to Jennings. AM isn't the problem.
