I know nothing about HS talent in our area like you guys do. I have seen this exact argument - that we overlook local talent - for many decades prior to Hud. I wanted the "new UL" to attract the better talent in the area (those that no one could disagree with). If local coaches and top talent are still shafting us... I really don't know the answer. I think Hud wants to see the absolute best in our area to forego other offers and help elevate our program.
I can tell you younger guys that we have 1000 local athletes from days gone by that still think they were "good enough" for UL. I knew 3 HS standouts that walked on to UL and thought they'd light the team on fire. They couldn't make it through the first days of workouts. And they couldn't believe how bad ___ the athletes were that are on our team.
Since this subject has so many layers of BS with it... my personal litmus test is what other offers these athletes have. Screw the local HS coaches that think we should take one of their athletes that can't get any other FBS offers. But I also think Hud should give tryouts to those that local coaches feel strongly about. And to be asked to walk on when you aren't being recruited heavily by other FBS programs... is an honor. If you're that good, you'll win out and win a scholarship. If you aren't that fired up about UL, move on.
First of all every comment you made about Begue was a waste of your time and energy obviously my response was directly aimed at the Bellamy comment. Do you think if Bellamy played at a school out side of Acadiana anyone would be suggesting we should offer a kid who only had one offer from Henderson state? I think we all know the answer. That is why I used the word homer because STM is in our home town and that's the only reason anyone suggest we should offer him. I have nothing against the kid but that is a prime example of a kid that is not recruited by anyone and the locals (homers) get mad because the Cajuns didn't offer. It happens all the time here.
The best way to immediately judge a recruiting class is who else offered and or had serious interest in the kid. I don't know of any other offers the kid holds now but Henderson st is not the recutting company we want to keep. Homer.
---I would love to know the number and some names of kids that have walked on since Hud got here and who made it to the field----Usually if a walk on has made it to the field you are in trouble (obviously exceptions but the percentage has to be very low)---All the high school coaches push their kids and aren't being fraudulent about it---they just think the kids are worthy----But again if these guys make it you are in trouble!!! Wonder if Cajun T has an idea or some names???
