Jake has been committed for a year and wants to come here, maybe he has closed his recruiting and told other coaches don't bother. My point is, to everyone for hammering HUD for not offering these 2 kids, apparently not many other FBS coaches think they translate well. Does anyone know if either of the kids want to come here? There are only so many spots in a class, only so many of those slots are for certain positions. With hasck transferring and if Nixon moves to RB, we still will have 6 QB's on the roster next year as of now. We will have 18 WR's on the roster next year as of now. The needs of a team, the numbers, is Begue or Bellamy better than what they have committed? Do they fit? It's not as simple as everyone makes it out to be. We need help and depth on the lines and in the secondary right now. If Begue was a senior last year or next year, he may have fit into the plan. We will never know but people that are too close to a certain school or certain kid can't see it without bias which is somewhat understandable but there is a lot that goes into filling that board in February than people realize.
I hate when people call people "Homer" for no reason. Let's look at the original post.
"Was told by both Luke Johnson and Buckley that Trevor isn't what Hud is looking for......"
I can see why--ALL he does is get open and make catches!! Smh."
He simply informed us that two people who know Begue say he is not what the Cajuns are looking for. He never said "Hud needs to look at more STM kids" or made any other reference to STM.
"I can see why--ALL he does is get open and make catches!! Smh."
Nicely placed shot at Hud. Most of us wish we had thought of it first.
JMO, he should've also offered Bellamy, as well!!
Gave his opinion, probably from his observation, that Bellamy would be a good QB for the Cajuns. My personal opinion is that at the college level that Bellamy would have trouble seeing down field, but from my personal observation he does have great skills.
Now we look at your post:
"You are obviously an STM homer with that foolish statement."
Would it be fair for us to assume that you are an STM hater?
"The QB is committed to Henderson st. The day we start competing with Henderson st for talent we are in trouble."
Prior to your making that post Will had back out of Henderson State. By the way, Henderson State is a fine school in several academic areas. Perhaps he was considering a field there they are really good and he thought perhaps he could play football at the same time. Perhaps he realized he could not play for a top level power five school so he wanted to go somewhere that could win a national championship, even if it was not at the highest level.
Now let's not make statements like "he is an STM homer". That is just uncalled for.
By the way, you were punished in that I put your quotes in PURPLE. I don't know of anything worse I could do on a UL fan board!!!
Hud does not go after local kids for the most part, and word is that many of the local coaches do not care for Hud's style of coaching or like Hud as a person. The same is true of coaches in other sports at UL.
Notice the success of the sports where they do go after local kids (specifically baseball and softball). Enough said!
Old Alumn Strong as Garlic!!!!
No disrespect to Ascension QB but I have seen both of them play now for years. Bellamy is head and shoulders better. NOT even close.
I know nothing about HS talent in our area like you guys do. I have seen this exact argument - that we overlook local talent - for many decades prior to Hud. I wanted the "new UL" to attract the better talent in the area (those that no one could disagree with). If local coaches and top talent are still shafting us... I really don't know the answer. I think Hud wants to see the absolute best in our area to forego other offers and help elevate our program.
I can tell you younger guys that we have 1000 local athletes from days gone by that still think they were "good enough" for UL. I knew 3 HS standouts that walked on to UL and thought they'd light the team on fire. They couldn't make it through the first days of workouts. And they couldn't believe how bad ___ the athletes were that are on our team.
Since this subject has so many layers of BS with it... my personal litmus test is what other offers these athletes have. Screw the local HS coaches that think we should take one of their athletes that can't get any other FBS offers. But I also think Hud should give tryouts to those that local coaches feel strongly about. And to be asked to walk on when you aren't being recruited heavily by other FBS programs... is an honor. If you're that good, you'll win out and win a scholarship. If you aren't that fired up about UL, move on.
