Trim has gotten burned in each game we've played thus far. I'm hoping he can come around in coverage. As a senior, I expect him to get the job done and play with poise, not fall all over himself out there.

I would say that our biggest problem is pass rush as I've said for over a year now. We have no edge rushers anymore and this kills me. We need to formulate some blitz packages that send guys like T. Alexander to go get the QB or possibly go more 4-3. Either way, if you give the QB so much time out there, it doesn't matter how good your coverage is, he will hit guys as they come open.

I once heard someone say that what defensive lineman do has nothing to do with the secondary. You talk about the dumbest statement ever regarding "defending" in football. Our lineman are rarely if ever helping the cause. And it is ALL because of coaching. Every single aspect of it... is on our coaching staff.

Personally, my assessment is that we ought to try going 4-3 much more. Our LB's do not seem to be playmakers and I think we would benefit from having one of our extra linemen or Prater at DE trying to create more of a pass rush and allowing Ringo and Hamilton to operate without the double teams.

We haven't had a pass rushing DE since Emeka left.

Or we could bring Tovell as a pass rusher from the 3-4 olb spot more often.

He is considered a rush LB and he does come off the edge during games. The problem is that he is much better in coverage and stopping the run than he is at getting to the QB. We initially brought him in to have a hand down and rush off the edge but he is not suited very well for that spot. We need somebody to step up whether that is Batiste or Prater or even Romaine Douglas, someone has to fit into that role and play it well.

I don't recall hearing announced or seeing Tovell in any tackles the first two games. And he is supposed to be our #1 defensive guy, at least as pre-season all conference is concerned. How has he performed so far?
