The offenses inability to sustain drives and put points on the board is why we lost. Throw in a gifted 7 points and two more turnovers and we got to witness a lopsided score in a game that the score wasn't indicative of talent or defensive coaching. The offensive gameplay was horrendous. We lost Robinson and decided that our other WR were chopped liver. Alonzo Harris had 12 carries for 74 yards and a TD before the game got away from us.

The run game got exactly what we wanted, La Tech to walk down and stack the box. What did we do? Ran 10 to 15 yard pass plays right where we forced La Tech defenders to creep up to in order to stop the run. We didn't stretch the field. That is on the staff.
I'm totally and thoroughly unimpressed by the very offensive strategy that you are pointing to... but to say that the offense single-handedly lost this game... is ludricous. The defense not only did not stop Tech... they gave up big plays that are the single reason they play such a pathetic defensive philosophy. Add to that fact, our defense never placed our offense in great positions... like many other defenses are required to in order to win games.

This was a coaching failure all the way around. And my theory that having this BS defense playing you in practice... not pressuring your QB... not defending half the receivers on the field... makes this offense think that is what they'll expect on Saturdays... is correct.

This coaching staff is expecting this team to out perform their opponent with purely what they brought with them from high school... with some serious gym time. This coaching staff needs to stop talking about "execution and turnover BS" and coach these players up.

Miraculously... when you coach well... players seem to execute better... and "turnovers happen". If I hear another head coach talk about "we didn't execute... and we didn't win the turnover battle"... I'm going to explode. That kind of dumb talk is equivalent to a gas station attendant saying, "I need to put less water in the gas tank... and more gasoline in it... and the engine will work better.". TEACH these young men better football!!!

"The price of recruiting better athletes over several years... and losing despite it... is questioning your own coaching abilites.". And there is no shame in it. Not learning the right lesson in a lesson learning opportunity is the only shame.

I am not taking away any plays that the defense gave up. What I am saying is that people are blaming the defense for the loss.

What I am saying is that the offense is of more concern than the defense. We have not had a great offensive performance in close to two years.

Tech set the tone of this game from the get go.

    1. Carter got crushed in the face on the kickoff.
    2. McGuire ran off right tackle and got blown up on the first drive. I think he may have been concussed. Got up wobbly.

They came to play. We were not expecting to get punched in the mouth. We recovered briefly but big plays KO'd us.

  4. Default Injury slowed down McGuire

An early game injury prevented UL from using standout running back Elijah McGuire more against Louisiana Tech than it did, Ragin' Cajuns coach Mark Hudspeth suggested Monday.

After rushing 13 times for a game-high 129 yards and one touchdown in a season-opening win over Southern, McGuire was limited to 15 yards on seven carries against in last Saturday night's 48-20 loss to the Bulldogs.

We were out-coached... period. Tech is not better, athlete for athlete. They were both better prepared, mentally and technically, for this game. Period. Both of those preparation qualities fall on the coaching staff. It absolutely is that simple.

And there is no way of getting this program higher than the flat line we've experienced the past three years, until and unless, we get some cerebral application of football added to our physical concentration effort... and the giant result we keep expecting out of emotional hype. We need some smarter Xs and Os.

  7. Default Cajuns plan to work way back after blowout loss

Cajuns plan to work way back after blowout loss Trying to put Saturday night's 48-20 upset loss to Louisiana Tech in the rearview mirror, Mississippi-raised UL Mark Hudspeth turned to his roots Monday.

Good lord settle down that's not what I meant. We played like crap against Ark State. It looked like we couldn't do anything. We started bad, and it snowballed. Within two games we had beaten a bowl bound ULM and nearly beaten 2nd ranked Florida. We then ran the table and won a bowl. If you looked at that ark state game you would have thought we we had the worst coaches in the game of football. I'm saying let's see how they react, they have righted the ship in the past. I'm concerned about the fact every year we seem to lay a similar egg....but right now I only care about seeing the ship righted.

I'm very settled down. I just had to take your ____ and give you some of my ____ back.

I'm tired of this "ship righting" activity. We're navigating a ship in waters we should be very good, by now, at navigating. We need to quit hitting icebergs and expecting the UL Titanic to keep getting the passengers to the other port of call. I don't blow off hitting icebergs with the comfort that the last iceberg didn't sink the ship.

Instead of "seeing how they react"... I'd like to see the captain admit he doesn't know an iceberg from a whitecap, and go back and study up on big huge blocks of ice, and how to detect and navigate around them. You can't always blast your way through treacherous waters with big biceps and a bull horn.
