If I were at Martin's place and could pen a response on the fly . ... it would go something like this.

Our goal going back over four decades has been to become the University of Louisiana, nothing has changed in that regard.

It is common knowledge that we would refer to ourselves as UL as an introduction, but current law prohibits us from doing so as a first term reference, and not until our full legal name has been established in context.

The legal first use exceptions are Louisiana and Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns.

It is important to note; nothing prevents the Sun Belt from using Louisiana and or UL as first phrase references.

We then circulate the petition via facebook, emails, and the like.

We are our own choir preaching to ourselves. And we are a very small minority of the UL world.

We use the petition to prove to the administration this isn't just about some hardcores on a message board. We need the folks who don't have the emotional, intimate attachment to realize that attachment isn't just about football or athletics. And develop that same emotional , intimate relationship.

Its about a vital economic engine in Lafayette.

Why not submit ULA to the SBC to be used for statistical purposes? Would it be legal? It's better than UL-L. It's not UL which is illegal.

Yea, because nothing says small time regional school like Acadiana University.
