Our goal going back over four decades has been to become the University of Louisiana, nothing has changed in that regard.

It is common knowledge that we would refer to ourselves as UL as an introduction, but current law prohibits us from doing so as a first term reference, and not until our full legal name has been established in context.

The legal first use exceptions are Louisiana and Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns.

It is important to note; nothing prevents the Sun Belt from using Louisiana and or UL as first phrase references.

Sincerely, University of Louisiana at Lafayette

Turbine, can you change the closing to "alumni, students, RCAF members, etc."

And could you create an online petition?

We then circulate the petition via facebook, emails, and the like.

We are our own choir preaching to ourselves. And we are a very small minority of the UL world.

We use the petition to prove to the administration this isn't just about some hardcores on a message board. We need the folks who don't have the emotional, intimate attachment to realize that attachment isn't just about football or athletics. And develop that same emotional , intimate relationship.

Its about a vital economic engine in Lafayette.

It's against state law to do so.

I'm not saying it's perfect. It's a hell of a lot better than ULL.

No it isn't. ULA could be interpreted as anything; it's just an abbreviation.

ULA could be the three letter denotation for our university in athletics. It would not be violating name change procedures according to louisiana legislative act 45 of 1995, section III, sub section C unless you'd like to make the argument that it is not the appropriate municipality being noted by the "A" in ULA though there is no university of Louisiana at alexandria so there would be no conflict of interest. We would still technically be the University of Louisiana but have a monicker that would hopefully have the desired effect. ULA for stat purposes, Louisiana in full for athletics branding. Only hick up I'd see is if lsu made lsu-a switch to the UL system and change their name to interfere
