Why doesn't asu go to Indy?If you buy what Benson has told the Arkansas State administration, he was working with the I-Bowl to get something concrete for UL or ASU so another SBC team would be in a bowl. The I-Bowl called UL and wanted to measure our interest before going foward with any discussions. When they called, they were told we were going to accept the NO Bowl invitation and that we had no interest. Nothing was offered because the discussions were cut off at that point concerning UL. UL had made a decision prior to that call to play in the NO Bowl. To answer your question Tony, the SBC Champion has to be placed in a bowl and the NO Bowl would have waited another week because they want UL.
Benson has told the Arkansas State administration this and right now they are not happy with Dr. Savoie because of their relationship has been very good for years and they felt we could have at least waited to accept the NO Bowl until after the last game of the season and listened to what the Indy Bowl had to offer. When it comes to SBC relations and Indy Bowl, UL is not in a very good place right now. There is no conspiracy theory here, other then Dr. Savoie wanted to play in the NO Bowl and it really didn’t matter what was offered at that point.
