Just to get something straight ... this is the same bowl that didn't want us a few years back because they wanted to capture the Chicago market, right?
While I think we should have listened to the I-Bowl proposal, I am not sure that we or the NO bowl for that matter should have to put all of our / their plans on hold for the I Bowl. After all which Bowl was there for this conference whne we were looking for any Bowl ite-in period? Did the I Bowl in Louisiana come looking to help out a conference with offices in Louisiana? No they looked out for themselves and reached out to the ACC. Its understandable. But then it should also be understandable that we look out for our best interests as well with no consideration about what might help the I Bowl or any other conference member. As for our relations with Benson and the other conference members, ____ 'em. When have they looked out for us? When scheduling us to play basketball at WKU how many years in a row? When refering to us by the names we ask them not to use? When they fail to back us up in media incorrectly refering to our program (Geaux Leopards!!!) When the I Bowl screwed us over the last time? Did that AState guy on the I Bowl convince them to take us rather than NIU? The only concern I have in this issue is another example of poor decision making by our AD / Admin (Listen to all offers before making the decision) and any ill will this causes with Coach Hud. Otherwise, screw Benson, every other program in this suckass conference and Missy and the I Bowl.
And one other thing, if AState has a member on the I Bowl committee wy are they having so much trouble getting the I Bowl to offer them? Yea, but its our fault.
It's a bit tit for tat. In 2011 we kind of needed each other. We needed a bowl game...they needed butts in the seats. I don't think we owe the New Orleans Bowl anything more than they owe us for basically making their game relevant and well attended for the past two seasons. I could care less about how Benson or Arkansas State feel about us...but I do not like our administration lying to our faces. If they come out and say...sorry our bad we were just trying to play things close to the vest...that's all hunky dory...but you know they won't. They will act like it never happened...and get ready for their spa day in New Orleans. It's good to be the king.
You always listen, if for no other reason you have something to compare next years offer to.
You always absorb knowledge even if the benefits are not immediately tangible.
The only way I would hang up on a proposal was if it opened with an offer to dance to the "wait for us" tango.
stAte guy says we didn't listen, we'll case closed. We didn't listen.
Sarcasm off
After reading this thread and some of the others, it is quite obvious that there are some folks around here have a personal agenda to discredit and do what they can to get rid of some in the UL athletic department and possibly the administration. I too have agreed and disagreed with our administration from time-to-time (especially with the name fiasco Saturday night), but not to the point of wanting folks gone. I feel like this I-Bowl situation or rumor is getting WAY out of hand! Some of us are acting like UL is a BOWL game juggernaut, when in fact we are making only our 3rd Bowl game in modern times.
I think many of us would have wanted Scott Farmer and Dr. Savoie's heads on a platter if they had not accepted the first Bowl offer extended to us 3 years ago. Now, after having participated in 2 Bowl games, some want to hang both of them for accepting a Bowl game offer that virtually guarantees we will make a little money!!!!
Since we are talking rumors, I have been told that the I-Bowl wanted UL to wait on accepting the NO Bowl offer until later because if Notre Dame, or possibly a PAC-12 team, did not accept their offer, UL would be the first non-BCS school to be offered. If that is indeed the case, I too would have also told them that I was not interested. As far as I'm concerned, a solid commitment from the N.O. Bowl was much better than a maybe from the I-Bowl, regardless of the financial considerations. It's the I-Bowl we are talking about, not the Rose Bowl, Orange Bowl or some other top tier Bowl game. Remember, this is the same Bowl committee that passed us over for NIU just a few short years ago. What makes anyone think that they would have out best interest in mind?
I am willing to bet that we would be having another totally different conversation if we had put off the N.O. Bowl to wait and see what happened with the I-Bowl and then ended up sitting home like LTUR did last year.
