Thread: What if the I Bowl called us a few weeks ago...

After reading this thread and some of the others, it is quite obvious that there are some folks around here have a personal agenda to discredit and do what they can to get rid of some in the UL athletic department and possibly the administration. I too have agreed and disagreed with our administration from time-to-time (especially with the name fiasco Saturday night), but not to the point of wanting folks gone. I feel like this I-Bowl situation or rumor is getting WAY out of hand! Some of us are acting like UL is a BOWL game juggernaut, when in fact we are making only our 3rd Bowl game in modern times.

I think many of us would have wanted Scott Farmer and Dr. Savoie's heads on a platter if they had not accepted the first Bowl offer extended to us 3 years ago. Now, after having participated in 2 Bowl games, some want to hang both of them for accepting a Bowl game offer that virtually guarantees we will make a little money!!!!

Since we are talking rumors, I have been told that the I-Bowl wanted UL to wait on accepting the NO Bowl offer until later because if Notre Dame, or possibly a PAC-12 team, did not accept their offer, UL would be the first non-BCS school to be offered. If that is indeed the case, I too would have also told them that I was not interested. As far as I'm concerned, a solid commitment from the N.O. Bowl was much better than a maybe from the I-Bowl, regardless of the financial considerations. It's the I-Bowl we are talking about, not the Rose Bowl, Orange Bowl or some other top tier Bowl game. Remember, this is the same Bowl committee that passed us over for NIU just a few short years ago. What makes anyone think that they would have out best interest in mind?

I am willing to bet that we would be having another totally different conversation if we had put off the N.O. Bowl to wait and see what happened with the I-Bowl and then ended up sitting home like LTUR did last year.

    I get the same feeling.

Pac 12 currently has 2 extra bowl eligible teams...with the shake up with the BCS after saturday nobody knows how things will fall now. The indy bowl sided with tech to keep us out in 2008, they obviously had a good relationship. then in 2012 tech asked them to wait bc tech might get something "better" and got screwed. Does this not sound familiar to anyone? wanting a bowl to wait on you for something "better".

I agree....and I also remember several posts saying that we SHOULD NOT wait for any other bowl to offer IF the NOLA bowl is a sure thing. So...maybe the admin read theses posts, look at the projected numbers from the bowl reservations, and figured the best place is NOLA.

I can tell you one thing....if we would have waited on the I bowl to offer and the chips fall a little differently, we maybe on the outside looking in this year....then where would the team be! Screwed! And this board would be calling for the admin heads! Oh wait! They already are!

After the iBowl NIU debacle I can't imagine trusting them at face value.

Top that off with what happened to LA Tech last year and I can picture the exact same script playing out.

I don't care that we didn't listen to the I Bowl. I don't care that we told them right off the bat that we were going to the NO Bowl. With all of the information about the prospective bowls coming into the conference office... who knows what the conference office was conveying to the presidents of each school, including ours.

It is one thing to say we just told them "no interest"... but an entirely different conversation that we did it ignorantly... and now might pay a future price for it. There are numerous factors to consider, other than jumping to the conclusion that T-Joe (or his AD) was an ignorant ___ toward the I Bowl... or that we had some back room deal (that isn't in the interest of all of us) with the NO Bowl.

If the I Bowl wants/needs us bad enough in the future... we'll get another invite. And I hope when that time comes we have a fantastic, obvious choice ahead of them. LSU flat out turned down the I Bowl years ago... and screwed the I Bowl. And the I Bowl would take them every time since. That's another conclusion that is dumb. "We were straight forward and simply stated that we were going to the NO Bowl". So what? We did them a favor. Now they can take our name off the list.

I'll tell you freaks this... if we cannot focus on the actual things that were obviously done wrong (ie our name issue at the ULM game) and stick to that... without going off on these damn tangents of who said what to whom on the phone with the damn I Bowl... we're the most pathetic group of dumbasses that don't deserve to be fans of a bowl eligible team.

Shut your damn mouths about who said what on a damn phone call that you weren't on... and stick to ____ we actually know happened! We know things T-Joe and Scott have messed up on... there is no evidence of this incident... even if it did happen... of being improper.

"Screw the I Bowl!"... and if you think that won't get us an invite when they need us some time in the future... you're a moron!

And if you think Hud is going to leave UL because he could have played in the I Bowl or the GoDaddy... against XYZ... you're a freaking idiot. That same coach lost to ULM this past weekend. What exactly is he beating his chest about this week? If you guys are scared to tell him to rethink his big future... I'll tell him for you. Until he has more than a straight line resume at UL... he's not going anywhere better than UL.

You cannot be left out as a conference champion, which is what we are regardless of what happens Saturday in Mobile, and for us to be left out, we would have had to lose both to ULM, and USA, and had stAte win, a perfect storm that would have been some kind of incredibly rare scenario. Also remember, by the time we "accepted" the bowl bid, we were already conference champions and 100% guaranteed a slot in a bowl game. This is NOT like the La Tech situation specifically because of that fact.

Tuff, we can't say I'll hold out cause we are champs, if that's the case we would just wait til the BCSNCG to come calling and then say, oh cool we got the one we want we're good.

If they offer and we say we don't have an answer they did their part, we didn't do ours, and they can move on

    +1000

Each and every year is a new year for the Bowls and all schools.

Regardless of what may (or may not) have happened in the last few weeks, if the I-Bowl committee thinks UL can be of value to them sometime in the future they will come back to us. If they don't think we can help them, they won't call. It's all about the money and little else! What may have taken place recently will have little, if any, effect of what happens in the future.

This, I'm sure there is some bylaw that protects the bowls from being strung along. Once they offer and we turn down, that may real ease them. Especially if we end up cochamps and ASU would be considered the champion being placed.

Nope, You can't say you're stringing someone along when 90% of the bowl invites haven't been sent. If we told them to wait on selection day, then yes, I'm sure there's something like that, but that doesn't happen until next Sunday. I repeat, we would not possibly get left out as long as there is a rule requiring the conference champion to be slotted somewhere. What it would have done is put a halt on Godaddy and New Orleans sending invites. New Orleans may have balked at us and invited another conference team, which would have been their loss, but as the #2 selecting bowl, Godaddy by conference rule would not be able to slot someone until we have selected a bowl game for ourselves be it Indy, New Orleans, or Godaddy.
