I have been thinking of all this name issue stuff and that is never a good thing. So the Miami Univ. in Miami has taken to calling themselves "Thee U" and Ohio University has started calling themselves Theee Ohio University or some ____ like that. So while we are messing with people, we should start calling ourselves "Thuhh EL" Not Thee L but Thuhh OR we can call ourselves "Thuhh ELSS" That will ____ a bunch of you of though, so pretend I didn't suggest that one.

And when we get tired of trying to get them to call us that, we can start insisting that they call us "Le Cajuns" and then "La Louisiane" and so forth until they say uncle and call us Louisiana's Ragin Cajuns!!! Lets have fun with it. You need to be able to laugh at yourself and have fun along the way.

We had our preconstruction conference today. There indeed will be two logos placed on the tank. One academic and the other athletic. The athletic logo will face Cajun Field the academic logo will face to the Bertrand drive/Johnston Street intersection. Lafayette will be on the academic logo but we will place it low enough so that the cat walk had rail will cover it to a degree.

They will not start for at least another 2 or 3 weeks so it looks like ANOTHER winter time paint project. Sigh

Ask them to paint the Lafayette with a fine tip marks-a-lot.

Well of course, but logo permission would be required.

The problem is water towers have a long history of telling you what town you are in.

It's just a shame that the university marketing department has chosen to utilize a water tower mentality.

Academic marketing has free legit access to "Louisiana" marketing. Leave full disclosures to letterheads and legal documents.

There was some discussion if the TM symbol needed to be placed on the logos. LUS was going to check on it. I pointed out that nobody would be able to see it. Actually, the University will have final say so as to the exact location of the logos. The logos will have lights too.

The Lawtell Water system used to hire somebody at the beginning of each school year to paint LHS Sr. XXXX for Lawtell High School and that years senior class year. It was much safer.

One time we had just finished repainting the Guilbeau Road water tower and some kid from Acadiana High School got up there and painted AHS SR and the year along with a few other things. They left a backpack and about a half of a loaf of Evangeline Maid bread. (I guess they figured they needed a sandwich or something).

If we would just go with LOUISIANA and an "L", like "T" for Texas and Tennessee", "F" for Florida, "M" for Michigan and Missouri, "G" for Georgia, etc. etc., we would never have to worry about legal or illegal use of UL and Lafayette. We can refer to us as UL, but we only use the "L" and Louisiana in official reference, on gear, uniforms, etc., and it is legal because there is no use of "University of" or "UL" requiring the city tag in either logo. It is simple, clean, distinctive, and averts the continuing problem we have with all of this. Texas is the best example. Official name, University of Texas at Austin. Athletic name, TEXAS. Official symbol used, "T". General reference, UT.
