I think your opinion is correct, I think that is probably what he wanted to say.

I was gonna make this same analogy. Helping a draft-eligible player move on helps the player (obviously), and while it may be a detriment to the program short-term, it helps recruiting in that, the next guy will see what can happen if he chooses this program. I dont think its a complete apples to apples comparison, but a case can be made that the same situation would apply to coaches.

My take is this, let Hud sell Hud.

    Everyone else sells the University.

If UL becomes known as the Cradle of Coaches, so be it, it's not a bad tag to hang your hat on. However you let it happen through tradition not by selling the attributes of your current coach.

Future coaches are not naive, word will get out (in that close nit community) if you stand in the way of a coach advancing or not. And that is not the same as a buyout clause.

Personally I would not have granted Tim Buckley an interview on this topic (TB can squeeze blood from a turnip, and refuses to fix quotes) I thought Scott was on the right track when he declined to address any supposed interview by Hudspeth. I wish he had stopped there.

I understand we do have a buyout clause in Coach Hud's contract.

So have we contacted Mr Moncla about an RCAF donation for Hud? Franks, Knight, Stuller, Jake, Stokely, etc etc etc

When you put your hat out there.. how much is enough?

UL can only go to the well so often with the BIG donors. They are already doing their part and providing a tremendous amount of assistance to the University, but we can't expect them to carry the entire load. It us little guys that need to step up our game if we want to continue moving forward.

To no one in particular . . .

The best way to increase the number of big donors is to increase the overall fan base and hope some of them have funds.

This can start by never bringing up how short a period of time someone has been a fan.

This is not the same as being proud of how long you have been tracking your favorite team. You just don't make light of new money.

The key person that need not bring up who is a "short period" fan is the "short period" fan. This forum, especially this past year, received a lot of "introductions" by people that thought everyone on here needed to know why they have not been a UL football fan. No one cares. If you want to be a UL fan, be a UL fan. If you want to pull your groin, pull your groin. No one cares.

Oh, and you don't make light of old money either. It spends the same.

Old money is both exponential and expediential.

I agree you can only go to the well so often.. my statement was to imply we haven't hit all the big wells yet.
