_ OK... I didn't want to tell you guys... but this friend of CajunFun owns a patent on a magic carpet that runs on a renewable energy source yet to be discovered. He says it's worth in excess of $17B. I say it's closer to $44T. The design isn't finalized, but when it is... things are going to be SWEET!!!!!

_ The bottom line to all this talk is-----where would you rather be at the present time and projected into the future as an athletic department----I think any fair chooser would go with UL---Many times the advantages have been addressed on this board---NOW they are being articulated by inspired voices that have the ability to send the message and we also have the finished and on going projects that support the mission of this university and its Athletic Department!!!!! just the facts!!!! _

_ OK... you think you've been in idle. Your school is nowhere near as large as UL... hasn't graduated nearly the students... and not that I don't like the little town of Ruston... but you seriously do not have anything that even resembles the amount of unutilized resources that we have. I hate to tell you... but this whole thing about Tech fans believing their ADs weren't making great decisions and doing right by Tech football... is a wad of nonsense. I know how they've solicited support, put money into the program, paid more for coaches... and although the results aren't that much more remarkable than UL... Tech has absolutely tried with a mountain more effort than the UL administration. You have no idea. Tech's president and AD have not tried to practically shut down your football program. "That" is what we've faced. You couldn't hope to ever have the academic endowment we've got. Cajun fans scattered all over Acadiana aren't inspired to donate to academics. We never solicited anyone... anyone for football. If a person stepped forward with a huge check in hand and said "this goes for this"... it was refused. Our 34 year president WOULD NOT allow UL to become or be known as an athletic minded university... if that required having any relationship beyond 10 old friends of his... donating money to athletics.

I'm not arguing with you that neither Tech nor UL football impresses me. You simply have no idea how much our hands have been tied. I know for an absolute fact that has not been the case with Tech. Tech fired Bicknell... UL's old admin would have erected a statue of him and gave him a lifetime coach and AD position. You hired Dooley and managed to yank Schelfo out from under us. Don't kid yourself. Tech has paid a significant amount of attention to football. You've managed to take south Louisiana football athletes that for absolutely no good reason... other than highschool coaches down here say "Tech is more serious than UL about football". If that's a lie... then someone sure had them fooled. Right now... most highschool coaches in Acadiana with half a brain are saying "damn... UL is finally... finally... trying to be special in football".

You guys can take it as puffery or whatever. Just sign the contract and let's settle the matter on the field and courts. Screw the puffery... screw the past... sign it... and let's rumble. _

I am more than a little tired of people on this board blaming Ray Authement for everything wrong with this athletic department. Unless you have direct knowledge of conversations between Ray & these "persons with check in hand" or the actions he took for or against the department, then you are speaking from a point of ignorance. Since you are entitled to your opinion, you have the right to be wrong, as you are in reference to any harm Ray has done to this athletic department.

Since you are entitled to your opinion, you have the right to be wrong, as you are in reference to any harm Ray has done to this athletic department. _

Why don't you go ask a group of businessmen who wanted to each pledge $100,000 each year which would total $1,000,000 give or take annually for the athletic program. Dr. A did not want to allow them to donate only to athletics and wanted this to go into a general fund for which they would have little or no say in how it was distributed. They backed off and gave nothing. One of those men met with Hud recently to which I am not sure what was said or decided. You are right, I haven't spoken to Dr. A about any of the athletics budget issues over the years as I really only came to have a general understanding of them over recent years for which he had one foot out the door. I can tell you that if you deny that there were issues with him and his beliefs of how to fund an athletics program, it is YOU sir who is being ignorant.

I say this not because I am a detractor. I am far from it. That is because I know there are many reasons this program has not been given the resources to flourish and I'm sure tons of other reasons I have no idea about nor do many here. I know that Dr. A is well respected in the world of academia but the times we operate in have to make a distinction between the two and how they are funded. Athletics is forever more reliant on private dollars and there are people out there willing to offer it but they want to be able to have a word in where it is going and how it is used.
