Ktulu,
You're a nice guy. You love your school, and that is always a great thing. You come here and are polite, and that is also greatly appreciated.
Obviously, this is a micturation competition.
For our part, we have resources you don't have. We have demographics, we have wealth, we have research funding, we have research parks, we have graduate programs. We also have a town that's a lot more fun-- and from what we're told, a lot friendlier-- than Ruston.
And we have a whole lot of hunger. People in this town have been waiting to take the gloves off, and according to the book about our busted basketball program of the early '70's, it appears we've had them on since about 1945.
That is no exaggeration.
Well, the new administration is burning those dam*ed gloves.
Catch us if you can.
It's nice to start that statement with "you're a nice guy," but that was a patronizing comment. I recognize when I'm being talked down to, nice or not. Your school is not this overwhelming machine of wealth and investment either, so chill on that. You're grossly exaggerating.
You are correct. Our school has not been "this overwhelming machine of wealth and investment"... although our academic endowment is nothing to sneeze at. He is trying to tell you that with what we ARE today... maybe unimpressive to you... we are taking off the athletic shackles... finally. You do not have to believe it. Why should you? It doesn't make a Techster feel better. It isn't about Tech. Unlike other systems in this state, we do not have to deny Tech in order to work on this new course of growth.
I also do not think CajunFun was patronizing you. It was difficult for it not to sound that way, since he went on with the rest of the pro-UL stuff. But, he does identify you as being a nice person. There is no one more proud of UL than CajunFun... but I believe he is sincere when he pays a compliment to others.
Obviously, there are two schools of thought that oppose each other depending on what side of the fence you are sitting. However, we actually do share some common characteristics. For the most part, both schools share the same treatment and alienation from the mothership university in this state and are told to know our places regularly. We are both part of the UL school system and therefore at the mercy of the LSU controlled board of regents who help control financial budgets. Lastly, its time that BOTH schools put up or shut up. UL fans have been complaining about the name issue for years and we have blamed everybody we can for a role in our inability to be distanced by other state universities by our name. We have collectively underachieved in athletics and have been forced to run a "waterboy" operation for years while underpaying and overexpecting. We were led by an idiot for years who declared athletics the bain of the collegiate existence and finally have one who is mainstream in his ideas about what athletics can do for a school's personna.
La Tech and its fans have grown this amazingly weird aura of separation over the recent years as if they expected to be given an amount of respect they haven't earned. They laughed at the SBC only to now have had backdoor conversations about being let back into it. Moron Dooley proclaimed Tech some mid-major powerhouse that was above the so called directionally named institutions in this state along with Grambling and others. All this while you have enjoyed absolutely squat in the success department and done nothing to show this separation you so strive for. Yet, its this path to separation that has led you back to the common ground that you share with UL and ULM amongst others. It's time for you to stop acting like we should be honored to travel time and time again to play Tech in all sports with no return visits. This is not reality and its not good for athletics in this state as it only makes sense to carry home and home series with other state schools to satisfy scheduling and budget needs. Let's make a truce. We promise to stop proclaiming that we are on the brink of something great until we actually reach that apple while Tech stops acting like horse's asses and understand that separation only exists between your ears
