This is a very interesting article. Do you know what the plans are for Lourdes Hospital once they move? It will be interesting to see what's going to happen to that section once it's gone. Maybe a good place to start.
A good read and very thought provoking! Thanks.
Very good article and very thought provoking. thanks,
I hear too big therefore too expensive for VA. VA only wants a part of Lourdes, not the whole campus. Also, they want something sooner than when it will be available. I hear different things but I think it is looking like Youngsville for VA. The Sisters would love for UL to purchase the property. The problem (as everyone nows) is $.
As you are probably aware, looks like there will be a med school in Lafayette. LSU wants to place the "family practice" school in Lafayette. Negotiations are happening between UL and LSU regarding possibly leasing land next to UMC for the school. The LSU Medical Dean who is leading the effort has a good relationship with T-Joe and they are trying to work together. The LSU Med school higher ups, however, are dead set against any partnerships with UL in this endeavor. The good news is that we learned from the UMC land debacle...and the state cannot expropriate the land since it is now part of the UL Foundation. If they want it next to UMC, then they will have to work with UL.
One of your best articles CajunFun. I'm not certain of the solution, but wholeheartedly agree with the benefit of doing so. UL is as you stated. And it would be fantastic to have the same surroundings of the "best three" you mentioned. The bling and generica is an unfortunate biproduct of uncontested aspects of capitalism... of course... as is the blight in the neighborhoods around UL. I suppose the most logical and effective way to start the movement toward this cultural habitat surrounding UL is to get consensus of these large, likely to agree organizations. It has to become a long range mission, but starting with a few targeted areas as pilots. The successful transition of a few target areas should be planned to make it go viral much like blight does. It tends to feed and feed until it consumes an area. I guess politicians might assist in some zoning restrictions... but owners will fight. I think it has to sneak up on some, just like "blight and bling" sneak up on most. Hummm... without some wealthy philanthropic contributor... I'm still stumbling over how you out the ownership of the blight and bling. If it isn't mighty clever... you better come up with some serious money.
