I agree...most of our problems stem from what we pay assistents but I hope that will be something that increases

We would need to at least double what we are paying coordinators and position coaches. We are losing because the coaches on our staff aren't making as much as many high school head football coaches in this state. That is why there are only a few who have any future in college football if Bustle gets fired. Most arent worth a damn, because we cant entice good coaches to accept what we are paying.

Dick Bumpas/ defensive co. at TCU. I'd give him whatever he wants.

How would we be a step up??? Do you realize how bad this program has been for years? Terry Bowden wouldn't come here.

Why? I know he is regarded highly but the HC at tcu calls the defense. Wuth that said why would he be such a great candidate?

we are talking about a jump up from Div. II to FBS football.... not a jump around in the same league. The man got back into coaching football because he truly has a passion for the game. thats probably what people thought when bustle was being thought of for the coaching job here. bustle came and got us out of the _____ hole so that hire has somewhat panned out. time for the next big thing...

the man knows and helps run a defensive scheme that works and works well, hence the top 10 ranking in the bcs poll. that is the main thing that he has going for him as a HC candidate.

I don't have a list but I do have criteria.

No coordinators who only want to see what it is like to be a head coach and who have to learn the HC duties on the job.

Hire a briliant DII or FCS coach who has had good success working with a smaller budget than he will have to work with at UL.

A coach of this sort is more likely to bring his well oiled machine (staff) with him. While the ex big time coach has frieds who all have good jobs and would be filling a staff not knowing the chemistry.

I have heard with the RCAF in place the next coach will make between 400 & 500k. If the next coach is not the second highest paid coach in the state then we should all learn to accept 5-6 or maybe 6-6 every few years and middle the of pack in the belt.

First, Bustle isn't a "clown". We don't need to "run him off". We simply have to get done with this season and pay out his contract. Bustle does not need to be ridiculed for us to come to the business decision that must take place. He also has every opportunity, albeit incredibly remote, to win 7 games this season and retain his position.

First, buying out his remaining contract isn't a bad deal for us, and it isn't a bad deal for him. It sucks to have to depart with coaches. However, it absolutely goes with the territory. Coaches don't even expect to be retained when they cannot win against the absolute worst teams in their conference and in the country.

Second, we have all the money we need. I mean all of it... to buy out... and to purchase absolutely whatever coach and staff we choose. It is all up to our admin as to whether they will go that route. We simply need to keep having intelligent conversations with our administration about our continued loyalty to the program being predicated on assurance from them that we are making the next huge correct step.

The chatter is normal for the circumstances... but we need to focus our energy on our administrative handlers. They have all of the decision making authority. There is nothing beyond their means... absolutely nothing. That is a FACT.

I agree. Bustle should be remembered much the same way Bowers at Southern Miss is remembered. He brought them to a certain level, which was better than the previous level. Then it was time to take the next step.

Sometime in December, it will be our turn to take the next step.
