I am not even an LSU grad, I am just making an observation. I don't recall confessing my allegences. Do I support LSU? Yes. But I do support UL-Lafayette also. But as I previoulsy stated, according to people who post on this message board, "support" of the Cajuns usually means you have to hate LSU, no exceptions.
There are plenty of UL supporters who don't hate LSU. We would like to be able to
peacefully co-exist with them. The problem is that there are people within LSU and that support LSU that have the view that ANY other university's advancement comes at LSU's
detriment. The big worry is MONEY!! They think we are taking what's rightfully theirs.
That is absolutely incorrect. There are posters on this board who are fans of both schools and provide logical arguments on both sides of the fence when need be. They are treated with respect and nobody here demands that you dislike LSU in order to be a cajun fan. I DID graduate from LSU and I grew to dislike them more while I was there than before. That is my choice and I have plenty of reasons for my feelings but i won't hold it against somebody here if they are an LSU fan but the problem is that when you get the typical tiger fan on this board, they treat their allegiance with an air of cockiness that is hard to take. Chances are, if you have been a Cajun fan for a long period of time, there are events that have taken place that have caused you to look at LSU with a certain disdain and I think that is why you see the collective dislike towards them on this board. There aren't a lot of bandwagon Cajun fans out there because there haven't been a lot of successes in recent years to jump on the bandwagon for! Our fanbase is a loyal one and I prefer to look at it in that sense rather than one that hates LSU as much as it loves its own school. That is not necessarily true.
The other problem that we face daily is winning over people like yourself. You seem to not necessarily have any direct allegiance to one local school and you say that you support both LSU and UL. However, that is the fanbase we are trying to capture. The local people who may rather go to a UL athletic event which provides a much better family atmosphere and easier on the pockets rather than sending that money to Baton Rouge. However, I'd bet that if you compared how much money you spend on LSU merchandise or events vs. UL, I'd bet you spend more on LSU. There is not necessarily anything wrong with that but our University and fanbase would like to change that.
No your "support" for both schools allows you to lean heavily towards the winning school. Just like everyone who says I pull for all state schools, just means you can always hitch your wagon to a winning team. Your a typical bandwagonner and that is just a sad and pathetic existence, your as loyal as a piece of cheese.
Who is more the fool: the fool, or the one who follows him?
At least I've taken a side.
My allegiances are not hidden.
I don't pretend to be something I am not.
I support my town AND my school.
And if you don't think that UL has a bigger economic impact in this city than State does, you are the one who is out of his mind.
