Ky Hascall of Kansas City, Mo., former Atlantic resident, was recently among the 50 band directors in the nation, honored in the School Band and Orchestra Director’s Magazine. The publication annually presents awards to a band director in each of the 50 states, with Hascall receiving his honor for the state of Missouri. He is the nephew of Connie and Dan Collins of Atlantic.
Musical family
Ky’s interest in music began at a young age, as his father, Harold Hascall, served as an elementary and middle school band instructor in Atlantic for 26 years before retiring. The young Hascall played the tuba in the Atlantic High School Band.
After graduating from High School in 1986, Ky attended Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville, Mo., receiving his bachelor of science degree in music education in 1991. He received his master’s degree in music theory/composition from the University of Louisiana, Lafayette, La., in 1995.
